US surge has failed - Iraqi poll
Source: BBC

About 70% of Iraqis believe security has deteriorated in the area covered by the US military "surge" of the past six months, an opinion poll suggests.

The survey by the BBC, ABC News and NHK of more than 2,000 people across Iraq also suggests that nearly 60% see attacks on US-led forces as justified.

This rises to 93% among Sunni Muslims compared to 50% for Shia.

1. Trying to muddy the waters with facts?
The only "facts" that matter are those in Bush's head: WE HAVE TO STAY IN IRAQ!

3. They 'believe'? aren't they kind of in the best position to KNOW?
This journalistic trend to use terms like 'believe' and 'suggest' is really getting me down. How bout 70% of Iraqis SAY, and the opinion poll SHOWS. Feh.

6. 70% of Americans have "grim view of surge"
2 polls suggest grim view of surge
snip>
According to the ABC/Washington Post poll, 58 percent of respondents said they felt the US surge had no impact on the situation there, while 12 percent said they felt it had made things worse. Fifty-three percent of those polled said they believed that Petraeus would present an assessment that is more positive than the reality on the ground. Only 39 percent thought he would portray the situation honestly.

8. Political situation may be the worst it has ever been
during the occupation.

I think the numbers being shown to congress are skewed simply because so many refugees have fled to Jordan and Syria. There are so many displaced citizens that it looks like things have calmed down in some areas. Everyone leaving an area shouldn't count as a success.

16. nearly 60% see attacks on US-led forces as justified
Not exactly the best environment needed for troops to make progress.

IF an occupying military was in our country I would consider attacks on the military justified too. I have sympathy for the Iraqi's plight and their opposition to US forces.

22. What?
You would be opposed to another country invading us and forcing their political system on us when we want absolutely nothing to do with it? :P

I could see the reality of such a situation too, for example France launches an attack on Canada and Canada retaliates by invading Guam.

5. No wonder there's some drop in violence. Everyone fleed!
There are less Iraqis to be murdered. It makes sense that deaths are somewhat lower.
I'd love to see a statistic of how many Iraqis are left in the country.

7. I never pay attention to polls asking Americans what they think about the surge
because we are here shopping at macy's and watching football games on TV while Iraqis see their families blown up and flee the country.
Next time you see a poll saying that many Americans think the surge is working, dismiss it.

26. Pretty remarkable, isn't it?
I think it says a lot that European new sources conduct polls of Iraqis while US "news" only conducts polls of US military officials, neocon talking heads, and the White House Press office. Has any US news source ever expressed any interest whatsoever in what the actual Iraqis want for their own country?

35. Well...the trick is...
In order to care about what the Iraqi's want you'd first have to have a heart. Secondly, you'd have to have compassion. Third you'd have to care about anyone but yourself...you see where I'm going with this. Need I say more?

23. If Bush's idea of the surge "working" is blowing the shit out of Bagdhad
then I suppose it's working.
The msm really seem to ignore the fact that an overwhelming majority of Iraqis do not want the U.S. military in their country.
I noticed how some of the talking heads/supporters of this shit have reverted to "protecting our vital interests" (imperialism) as the reason for staying.
