Very sad and an immense loss to the world. She was an early champion of environmentalism and a passionate advocate for social justice and human rights

We need more like her in this world.

May she rest in peace and my sincerest thoughts, prayers, condolences and sympathies go out to her husband and children. This is very sad

3. Oh no
My daughter sells Body Shop products, she is going to be so upset to hear this. They are a great company, this woman was way ahead of the rest of us.

5. I I was shocked to hear L'Oreal bought the Body Shop but the clerk assured
me that Anita's principles are still being honored. I wonder...who's checking??

6. Well I am
The wood is all certified. Products come from the locally grown and organic programs. It's the greenest cosmetic company I've ever seen. You can't know for certain unless you personally get on a plane and fly to where a product is made, but I don't have the money to check up on every one of these certification programs.

8. It was announced on the BBC World News
on BBC America this evening, too.

How sad. She really was a trailblazer, not just environmentally friendly products, but fair trade as well.

10. This is so awfully sad...
..Anita PROVED that a company could be ethical, compassionate, green AND profitable and successful. She was a wise, sentient goddess.
I am VERY sad that this icon of one of the most well-run businesses in America is gone.

I was also concerned when L'Oreal bought them out.

What a sudden, awful way to go. My thoughts are with her family.

I SO WISH we had many more like her in the world. WHY are the best always taken away so soon?

13. Sometimes people don't even know they have it for decades.
There wasn't even a test for it until the 90's.
