No Democratic Censure For MoveOn Ad
Edited on Wed Sep-12-07 09:45 AM by rocknation
Source: Washington Times

Capitol Hill Democrats rejected a call for votes in both chambers to condemn the attack newspaper ad, run by MoveOn.org, saying Republicans are trying to take attention off what they call the president's failed Iraq policy.

...Sen. John Cornyn,(a) Texas Republican...introduced the Senate resolution yesterday condemning the attacks..."This smear campaign consisted of entirely unwarranted and fallacious attacks, and sought to impugn the name of a highly respected man of integrity," (he) said.

...Democratic leaders say they won't allow a vote on the nonbinding resolution.

...(A) spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the California Democrat "wished wouldn't have done that ad," but declined to comment further. A spokeswoman for House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer, (a) Maryland Democrat, also declined to comment on the ad...

Well, I no longer have any doubts as to whether or not MoveOn should have done the ad--especially since the outcome was exactly as they predicted. Besides, as far as I'm concerned, the Rethugs started it by announcing that the Bush White House would write the report. Cue the DU "Cry Me A River" String Quartet!

1. guess i am glad there will be no vote. Yet. the Repugs will continue to diss the
Dems on this one.

Like they did in their opening comments during Prtraeus hearings.

2. Fuck the RepubliCAN'Ts if they can't take criticism.
Republicants:

Can't govern.
Can't legislate.
Can't run businesses ethically.
Can't fight wars smartly.
Can't even keep it in their pants.

Fuck 'em.

3. It is called free speech.
Repukes have used insults/slurs all the time--ie Dems are not patriots. Censure of move on was another way to silence the dems because, like the move on ad or not, it is free speech. It is wrong to cower to the threat of being called unpatriotic and Dems need to stand up for their rights.

5. Yeah, really
If the leadership can't be bothered to get a stiffer spine they can at least have the dignity to stand aside for those who do.

Not saying that it'd have been my first choice of words but, the anger is honest, and free speech should be respected.

6. I'm still waiting for the republican censure
of the Bush looking for WMD in the Oval Office comedy sketch.

Remember, the skit that had the media whores rolling in the aisles?

7. I went and checked out the ad
I didn't see anything in it that wasn't true-so what is the problem? A little name calling? Yeah it was beneath an operation like MoveOn but oh well we are talking about a world in which a distinguished Naval officers record can be twisted to imply that he shot himself in the foot, the US Navy is called liars, and "policy" discussions on the campaign trail are reduced to scapegoating people for something that hasn't happened based on their sexual orientation.

Patraeus is a big boy he should be able to handle it and if he can't he shouldn't have written a political op-ed piece and he should stop lying.

8. No matter if you like the ad or not, MoveOn is simply regular CITIZENS speaking out.
So, fuck those fascists.

They use big-money, shadow groups w/covert assistance from elected officials for their slimy efforts.

MoveOn is the antithesis of that, it is regular, everyday CITIZENS banding together to speak their mind.

So again, fuck those fascists.

9. I'll Say It Again
The one consistent thing this administration does is LIE. Why wouldn't there be questions about Petraeus's report. His job depends on the success of the mission. His Commander in Chief has made it quite clear that he wants certain facts brought forward. Do Generals obey implied commands of the Commander in Chief?
This furor is just the Republican fog machine. Divert and lie. Divert and lie. Ask questions and be attacked.

11. I don't recall a Republican censure of the Swift Boat Vets
ad against Kerry. And that was out & out blatant lies.

13. During the resolution debate today on Cspan durbin and boxer said they
would only vote for the resolution if they were allowed to amend it to include the swift boat liars. They went into full detail about how they dissed Kerry, Max Cleland and several generals who spoke out against the war. It was great but I never heard the end of the vote as I had to leave. Doesn't anyone here know the outcome? It was being discussed live on cspan at 6:45 when I had to leave for a Sierra Club meeting.
