Wal-Mart plans to roll out new ad campaign
Source: Reuters

Updated: 1 hour, 56 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Wal-Mart Stores Inc said on Wednesday it is rolling out a new advertising campaign with the slogan “Save Money. Live Better,” replacing “Always low prices.”

The world’s largest retailer said its first new so-called ad tagline in 19 years comes as Wal-Mart is incorporating more of an emotional tone into its advertising.

Its back-to-school ads showed actors posing as customers, talking about how Wal-Mart helped them save money amid high gasoline prices, a contrast to its previous ads showing a smiley face character zooming around stores, slashing prices.

Wal-Mart said it will begin running TV ads on Wednesday illustrating “how saving money on the little things adds up and helps families live better.”

Nice. "Save money and live better" by buying our poisonous toys and cheap-ass shit made in China.....at the same time, putting your neighbors out of work. :eyes:

2. "Always Low Prices" is so hokey.
They had to ditch that. Walmart has seemed to pride itself on its refusal to be hip in any way. They're going for a certain demographic, but I think they have come to the correct conclusion that they need to branch out and project a different image. The economic argument one is a persuasive one for many.

3. Walls Mart has already run ads like that
though I'm not sure if they still had the "Always Low Prices" tagline on them. When I first saw one, it was definitely an UGH moment, taking advantage of how people have been hit with higher fuel costs.

5. Unionizing Wal-Mart
Edited on Wed Sep-12-07 02:08 PM by rich1107
should be something the left takes up and pushes until it happens. Living wage for employees with health care covered. Safe products, not just cheap, etc. It would be a real demonstration of how unions really do help working people. No, unions are not perfect and as with any human endeavor corruption will occur. However, the benefit to working people really exists. Plus, unionizing Wal-Mart will really piss-off the right;)
