Two of Seven Soldiers Who Wrote 'NYT' Op-Ed Die in Iraq
Source: E&P

NEW YORK The Op-Ed by seven active duty U.S. soldiers in Iraq questioning the war drew international attention just three weeks ago. Now two of the seven are dead.

Sgt. Omar Mora and Sgt. Yance T. Gray died Monday in a vehicle accident in western Baghdad, two of seven U.S. troops killed in the incident which was reported just as Gen. David Petraeus was about to report to Congress on progress in the "surge." The names have just been released.

...

The accident in Iraq occurred when a cargo truck the men were riding in overturned.

The Daily News in Galveston interviewed Mora's mother, who confirmed his death and that he was one of the co-authors of the Times piece. The article today relates: "Olga Capetillo said that by the time Mora submitted the editorial, he had grown increasingly depressed. 'I told him God is going to take care of him and take him home,' she said. 'But yesterday is the darkest day for me.'”

One of the other five authors of the Times piece, Staff Sergeant Jeremy Murphy, an Army Ranger and reconnaissance team leader, was shot in the head while the article was being written. He was expected to survive after being flown to a military hospital in the United States.

4. A little too spooky.
What were the odds of this happening, 2 out 7 dead and 1 with near fatal gunshot to the head?

7. So, really it's 3 out of 7 who are injured by the war...
Only a 0.5 more and the stats will be more in line with what's
really been going on.

35. um....technically true
But the story clearly states the following:

One of the other five authors of the Times piece, Staff Sergeant Jeremy Murphy, an Army Ranger and reconnaissance team leader, was shot in the head while the article was being written.

Did word get out that these seven were writing the article? When it was published isn't really the point.

31. Check your armpits. I think it's conspiracy theorist.
Strangely my wiff-o-meter is getting the same thing.

Q. Were they already dead when the accident occurred?

I hope the families have independent autopsies done to be sure that the injuries/cause of death are fully consistent with a MVA.

18. all conspiracy theories are "outrageous"

Sadly, many are likely true.

There is, I think no one, who denies that it was a conspiracy that resulted in the Twin Towers: the only argument is about the participants in that conspiracy.

The US Rulers say it was 'islamofascists' (and keep implying they were Iraqi). Many others think our Rulers had something to do with it ... but all agree that it was a conspiracy.

I am certain that the death/injury of 3 out of the 7 war-fighters who openly and effectively criticized The War is nothing but unfortunate happenstance. Of no more moment that the suicides of such authors as J.H. Hatfield and Gary Webb, or the unfortunate accidents of politicians such as Senator Paul Wellstone or Governor Mel Carnahan ...

Really. I am.

20. I realize Webb's death looks very suspicious, but
I read his biography, and frankly, the job was finished on him long ago.
The man was destroyed. Utterly destroyed. No job, no chance to ever do real work again. His ex was suing him for support, he was having to move in with his mother, his girlfriend had turned him away, he had no money. No career. Killing him at that point would have almost been a kindness.

And the powers-that-be in the media business will never, ever admit their complicity in what was done to him.

It's looking fishier and fishier.

We were commenting here, on how odd it was that so many died. The news report said something like (correction 7 dead) in the accident indcluding 2 suspects.

for Bush to ignore. Slough his war off onto the next President and then get out on the lecture circuit. Gotta' replenish those coffers. :grr: How many of our sons and daughters die in the interim matters not to him. Can't lose face. Playing for 6 more months.

I hate that son of a bitch. I hate him.

30. Don't ya just love these thugs in the white house?
When Petraeus was asked yesterday at the hearing about the soldier in Walter Reed and his opinion of the surge. Petraeus fired back immediately before acknowledging the soldier or what opinion, "We have 165,000 troops with that many opinions."

That struck me kind of odd.
