Senate Republicans Wary of Olson Choice
Source: breitbart.com

Senate Republicans warned the White House Wednesday that it's not a good time for a fight with Democrats over a new attorney general and predicted there would be one of President Bush nominates former Solicitor General Ted Olson.

"It would be a dicey vote," said Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., a member of the Judiciary Committee. "It would be unfortunate to nominate someone who can't be confirmed."

There has been no indication that Bush has settled on Olson, or that he is even a leading candidate to succeed embattled Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, whose last day on the job is Friday.

But Olson's name has been mentioned enough that both Republicans and Democrats are saying that the longtime GOP ally would face a long, tough fight after representing candidate Bush before the Supreme Court in the contested 2000 election.

Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, a former Judiciary Committee chairman, said he talked with about 10 Democrats about Olson and that some made noises, if not outright threats, about blocking his nomination.

1. Olson is a rigid party loyalist and protege of Scaife
and as corrupt as they come.

I'm deeply shocked that some GOPs don't like him. I should think he'd be a shoo-in.

5. I think you might be right
and think someone should be chosen for expertise and competence rather than rigid loyalty to the administration.

Olson would make the Justice Department just as hostile a place as Gonzo did, and keep creating all the same enemies.

2. This is so much fun watching the republicons turn on each other
A year ago, they would have simply signed on to what ever the regime wanted, who ever they wanted with no opposition mentioned.

8. Olson also has a personal crusade: his wife was on the plane that crashed into Pentagon
As a result, Olson is a fanatic supporter of additional powers for the Presidency and of Endless War.

10. 9/11, American Airlines flight out of Dulles
The jet struck a section of the Pentagon that housed U.S. Army offices about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday. Among those aboard the jet was Barbara Olson, a conservative commentator who appeared frequently on CNN and the wife of U.S. Solicitor General Theodore Olson.

16. A "dicey" vote?
How about a figurative bloodbath, Mr. Sessions? Theodore Olson will never be Attorney General of the United States. He might be the latter day version of Lavrenty Beria, but never head of the United States Justice Department.
