President Petraeus? Iraqi official recalls the day US general revealed ambition
Source: The Independent (UK)

The US commander in Iraq, General David Petraeus, expressed long-term interest in running for the US presidency when he was stationed in Baghdad, according to a senior Iraqi official who knew him at that time.

Sabah Khadim, then a senior adviser at Iraq's Interior Ministry, says General Petraeus discussed with him his ambition when the general was head of training and recruitment of the Iraqi army in 2004-05.

"I asked him if he was planning to run in 2008 and he said, 'No, that would be too soon'," Mr Khadim, who now lives in London, said.

General Petraeus has a reputation in the US Army for being a man of great ambition. If he succeeds in reversing America's apparent failure in Iraq, he would be a natural candidate for the White House in the presidential election in 2012.

4. So now we know why the good General /bastard was pushing so hard to say
the surge was succeeding. When we lose...he does too. He doesn't lose just the war but his opportunity to be President! I'd call his testimony very BIAS and the American people should know this.

Anyone sent this information to Keith?

7. In May 2003, Petraeus claimed to have found WMD mobile trailers
He made a big PR production of it, the transcript is still posted on the Pentagon's website.

Petraeus also assisted Judith Miller in her well-publicized search for WMD in Iraq when she went in with a special team searching for them.

9. So I guess that would officially make him....
A POLITICAL HACK! :grr: Moveon.org nailed it but still, we'd better apologize. I mean, anyone who wears a uniform of the United States Armed Forces WOULD NEVER have ulterior motives and is just telling it like it is. He's a great man who's served his country honorably and would NEVER stoop to politics. :puke:

General David Betrayus, you have NO future in politics. Not after the sycophantic display of blind Bush loyalty you've displayed of late. You'll be another asterisk in history, just like your personal hero, GWB.

11. Every day of George Bush's stolen Presidency is odder than the one before.
Would President David Petraeus be better or worse than George W. Bush? Is it possible to be worse than George W. Bush?

Is he looking "Presidential" enough, like George W. Bush?

14. This points to the trend of late to make the military into a political force
ala Israel where not only is the opinions of the Prime Minister, Majority leader, and Minority leader deemed important so is the opinion of certain generals. Sharon is the most illustrative example.

This is not good in any way shape or form. Not because it is Israel but civilian leadership of the military is one of the main load bearing walls of our nation.

19. What I find nauseating
is that a truly great candidate like Clark can't get noticed by the MSM but people Powell and other fae=fawning idiots and sellouts always have a chance to foist their unwanted ambitions upon the American people- running as the latest GOP club sandwich. His trouble now is that the entire party is in the grip of an exclusive dynasty and all the kissing up as a world class stooge will make him no more than toilet paper- like Powell.

Could this guy win any battle, conduct any war? His mind is too fixed on presidential goals to do any job for which he has shown precious little of the brilliance and selfless dedication of Clark. The attitude of those serving under each man says more than enough.

20. The Bush/Cheney oil mafia has corrupted our military.
The oil mafia has selected generals for top positions because of political loyalty, not competence. This damages the Nation's security.

The oil mafia is very much like the Nazis. They do what is best for themselves, primarily, and then their party. The interests of the country are secondary and only important insofar as keeping the oil mafia in power.

Petraeus is one of these gutless yes-men placed in a top position. He is a lapdog, a do-boy, a traitor.

If we do not drive a stake through the heart of the corrupt republican party, they will remain in the shadows forever, always waiting to destroy our country. They have gone a long way towards that end in the last seven years.
