Korea may be Bush's model for Iraq, officials say
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush is looking at the decades-long U.S. troop presence in South Korea as a model for a future U.S. role in Iraq, senior administration officials said Thursday.

More than 38,000 U.S. troops are stationed in South Korea and along the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea more than 50 years after the end of the war on the Korean Peninsula.

The president will compare Iraq to the U.S. deployment on the Korean peninsula in a speech to the nation Thursday night at 9:01 p.m. ET.

During the speech, Bush is also expected to endorse the recommendation of the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, that the U.S. military can begin pulling 30,000 combat troops from Iraq.

As long as there's money to be made in Iraq, we'll never leave. Ever.

1. Funny thing about the Korean peninsula though...
THERE'S A BORDER, AND ALL THE BAD GUYS ARE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF IT!

It's a bit different when the bullets are coming from all sides, I'd think.

8. And a cease fire that has held for 50 years!
If we could get a cease fire in Iraq, that would be a big damn deal. Only we can't.

5. Translation: At best, our troops will be there to keep the lid on a partitioned Iraq indefinitely.

And that's if and only if they can stabilize the situation.

Buckle your seatbelts America. He is going to get us hit again with this one. Maybe we should take all of our money out of the bank and stock up on food and water.

13. ...and that 30,000 "drawdown" just puts us back where we were
before the surge. I think my HIST 510 professor stated it pretty correctly in seminar yesterday: our ruling clown has simply given up on Iraq; hang on and dump in the lap of the next guy (or gal).

He also has absolutely no sense of history...

18. Bsuh has a model?
Next time he faces the press corpse one of them should ask him to compare and contrast Korea and Iraq. He couldn't find either on a map, nor tell you who is the leader of each.
