GOP hopefuls say Bush on point
Source: UPI

NEW YORK, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Two Republican presidential hopefuls said they thought President George W. Bush was correct about U.S. troop levels in Iraq and that the surge is working.

Bush Thursday used a televised Oval Office speech to outline his plans for U.S. troop levels in Iraq, which includes drawing down combat forces to pre-surge levels by mid-July 2008.

"The surge is working better than anticipated," former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani told CNN after Bush's speech. "But there's still work to be done."

Giuliani, speaking from Atlanta, said the goal is no different now than when the war began.

No real surprise from either of these two. Now it just remains to be seen what it does to Giuliani's numbers.

7. That flake actually called this a "theological war"
I couldn't believe it. It was his own "bring 'em on" moment to a rather huge chunk of the world's population.

3. Rhetoric
Edited on Thu Sep-13-07 10:50 PM by FREEWILL56
that simply means damn what is right or what the people want as it is only what interests the republicon party says are good. They are saying to hell with getting obl as that oil over there is going to be the prize. They are saying that the lives of our brave soldiers and the lives of innocent Iraqis are worth being spent to achieve the party goals and agendas. They are saying their greed for money and power exceeds no bounds, not even when it comes down to your civil rights. Aren't they being good little modern-day nazis called neocons? The real problem I have is that there are dumbasses out there that agree with these people.
I say, put bush and all of the associated neocons involved in the last 2 terms of bush's regime on trial for war crimes and treason against the people of the United States of America and HONOR OUR TROOPS FOR REAL BY BRINGING THEM HOME AND TAKE CARE OF THEM AS THEY HAVE SACRIFICED SO MUCH MORE THAN THEY SHOULD HAVE UNDER BUSH'S RULE!!!

Man Rudy, when you finally retire from politics, the brick wall and microphone beckon for your stand-up career. All you need now is something funny to say.

10. this is good!
if these morons want to ride the coattails of a guy with an approval rating below 30%, I say - "go for it!"

this all but guarantees a Democratic victory in 2008

11. Probably not a good strategy. Republicans need to distance themselves from
Bush and the war, not become more associated with them.

Sept. 12th - The compromise on oil law is in jeopardy. It seems that Hussain al-Shahristani, the oil minister, and many Sunnis are upset with the Kurds who are signing oil deals that are seen as threats to Iraqi interests in their oil. One contract is signed with Hunt Oil of Texas.

(NYTs Compromise on Oil Law in Iraq Seems to Be Collapsing, by James Glanz)

Then there's this: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=2989428&mesg_id=2989428

Sept. 13th - "our" guy leading the Anbar miracle, Sheikh Sattar Abu Risha (I've also seen Rishawi), is killed. )This might not be too surprising since back in June when our alliance with Sunni sheiks in Anbar was starting, five in that emerging alliance were killed. It seems there was some friction:

Abu Risha, who enjoys the support of U.S. military commanders, denied the allegations and said the council is not at risk of breaking apart. "There is no such thing going on," he said in a telephone interview from Jordan.

Lt. Col Richard D. Welch, a U.S. military official who works closely with the tribal leaders in Iraq, said that relations inside the group were strained and that he expected a complete overhaul of the coalition in coming days.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/10/AR2007061001453_pf.html

That was June 11th. The sheiks were killed June 26th.
