Michigan GOP Activist Gets 5 Years For Sex Assault
Source: Plain Dealer

A Michigan lawyer who sexually attacked a 21-year-old woman at a Young Republicans convention here said Thursday that he disgraced himself, his family and his political party.

Michael Flory, 33, of Jackson, Mich., told a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas judge that his humiliation and self-destruction should be pun ishment enough for his guilty plea to a sexual- battery charge.

Judge Peter Corrigan couldn't have disagreed more.

--
"I'm sickened that he is an attorney," Corrigan told the victim and a packed courtroom.

Flory's wife, Erin, sitting on the defendant's side of the courtroom, rolled her eyes, shook her head and then sobbed as Flory expressed "deep, profound remorse" for what he did and pleaded with Corrigan for probation for the sake of his 4-year-old son.

17. You are right. Sexual assault is a crime against someone else and crack is a victim-less crime.
Sexual assault is much worse than using crack and deserves much worse punishment. The victim of sexual assault carries that with them for ever.

10. I was half waiting for Falwell schpeel "I have SINNNED against YOU!"
and that got Jerry off the hook. I expect he'll "find God" here pretty soon. All you have to do in the Repug party is claim you found God and all is forgiven...no matter what. It is the all purpose get of jail free card.

---Flory expressed "deep, profound remorse" for what he did and pleaded with Corrigan for probation for the sake of his 4-year-old son. ----- Flory's 4 year old son will probably be better off and safer with him in jail.

13. Actually, that was Jimmy Swaggart
Little matter, though.

I don't know why Mr. Flory would say that he was a disgrace to the Republican party, though. It sounds like he was totally in keeping with their values and platform right up to the moment the judge pronounced sentence.

14. Justice
He got the five year maximum Judge Corrigan could have sentenced him too. I hope he doesn't get out early. And I think this his life being ruined by being listed as a sex offender for the rest of his life is justified.

I'm sickened that he's even a human being. He's alleged to have assaulted others before this victim.

16. What an asshole.
After committing the crime, which is indefensible in itself:

"The woman and Assistant County Prosecutor Carol Skutnik said Flory and his friends later executed a campaign of Internet postings and whispers within the state GOP, accusing the victim of loose morals and character assassination."

So, Mr. Flory, it was only after an actual assault and a failed smear campaign that you decided you need to be a better father for your son? Hope jail is fun for you... the fellows in there have a code that puts rapists and pedophiles at the bottom of the heap. I think your slimy Republican credentials should help, as well!
