Health care spending highest in Northeast |

Source: Yahoo News...."For example, many of these states have high personal income, a high concentration of physicians and are among the states with the lowest rates of uninsured" http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070918/ap_on_he_me/health_spendingRead more: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070918/ap_on_he_me/health_spending
High personal income? The average person in Maine makes 8-9 dollars an hour. Great place to live. Very hard to make any money.

1. Don't let the high rate of spending in Maine fool you. Our health care is more expensive up here. |
|
Us spending 6000 a person is not the same as New York spending 6000 a person. In fact, a dollar is not just a dollar in health care. These things need to be weighted some how.

Moved here in 98 from Jersey. I have done fairly well as I am a nurse. However, I am appalled on what they pay folks and have an attitude about it as well. I love it here but that is a huge drawback. Then They wonder why the younger folks are leaving the state? Then there is Susan Collins....best not get me started.
p.s. Your little one is sooooooo cute!

The pay rates here are appalling. I do well because of what I do for a living, but I have no idea how most people here get by.
Cross you fingers about getting rid of Susan Collins!

4. It doesn't say that Maine is a high personal income state. |

It states that many of the Northeast states are high income states and that's true for the region. NY,NJ, MA,CT all are high income states.
Interesting that Maine's costs are high in part because the Medicaid program isn't as stingy as it is in other states.
on edit: and yes, Maine is a tough place to make a living. That's one of the reasons I left.
