Views unchanged by Bush speech
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) -- New polls suggest President Bush's prime-time speech did little to sway Americans fed up with the Iraq war.

According to a Pew Research Center poll, more than half of those surveyed still favor bringing troops home as soon as possible -- a number that hasn't budged in months.

And nearly half say the president should pull out more troops than what he proposed last week. The president has said force levels would stay at least at 130,000 until next summer.

There were modest improvements in how people viewed military progress. Still, 47 percent said the U.S. will likely fail in Iraq, compared to 42 percent who believe success is likely.

In a separate poll, fewer than a third of those questioned by CBS News were convinced the troop buildup has made things better in Iraq

3. The Ass Clown has abdicated
He as much as said that his own presidency was over, and for once, I agree with the scumbag.

I think the only movement we are going to see out of the WH for the next 16 months is going to be the curtains ruffling aside and somebody peeking out: "who's there?"

5. Polls: Bush, Petraeus didn't change public views on Iraq
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- There were two high-profile media events about Iraq last week: The top U.S. commander testified before Congress and President Bush delivered a prime-time speech. What impact did they have?

Very little, according to two polls taken at the end of the week.

Before the testimony of Gen. David Petraeus and the President's speech, 26 percent of Americans polled by CBS News approved of President Bush's handling of Iraq. After the speech, 25 percent approved.

Before the testimony and the speech, 41 percent of Americans believed the United States did the right thing to take military action in Iraq. After the speech, 39 percent said it was the right thing.
