Bin Laden urges Pakistanis to revolt
Source: AP

CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden called on Pakistanis to rebel against President Gen. Pervez Musharraf in a new recording released Thursday, saying his military's siege of a militant mosque stronghold makes him an infidel.

The storming of the Red Mosque in Islamabad in July "demonstrated Musharraf's insistence on continuing his loyalty, submissiveness and aid to America against the Muslims ... and makes armed rebellion against him and removing him obligatory," bin Laden said in the message.

"So when the capability is there, it is obligatory to rebel against the apostate ruler, as is the case now," he said.

Bin Laden's voice was heard over video showing previously released footage of the terror leader. The video was released Thursday on Islamic militant Web sites and first reported by Laura Mansfield, an American terrorism expert who monitors militant message traffic.

So would it be okay if we killed him now, Mr. Musharraf? Pretty please?

1. Musharraf, it's OK to go into the area where bin Laden is at now.
You're a military guy, you should know he just declared war on you.

3. Curiouser and curiouser
You want a real nuclear nightmare? Forget Iraq. Forget Iran - they're years away from the bomb. But, Pakistan has dozens of very real nuclear warheads and Intermediate range missiles.

Thank you, George H.W. Bush for arming Pakistan with nukes. Thanks, Bush 41, for funding and training al Qaeda. Thank you, Dubya and Dick, for destroying the unit of CIA that was monitoring A.Q. Khan's network. Thank you for letting this whole thing get out of hand.

How can we thank you for all you've done for America?

6. There are all kinds of ways to look at it.
If it's real, it's not the first time bin Laden has called for Musharraf's overthrow; Musharraf is a secularist dictator, and bin Laden historically has preached against secular muslims who run countries. So, if bin Laden is calling (again) for Musharraf's ouster, will Musharraf continue to protect him? Or has some other powerful Islamist faction within the Musharraf government (read: ISI) been doing the protecting all along?

If it's fake, who's doing the faking and why? Is it an attempt to drive a wedge between bin Laden and his ISI protectors? Do the fakers believe that such a recording might actually trigger an uprising against Musharraf, perhaps driven by ISI? It's hellishly complicated.

Anyway, no need for Marines if there's ever an attempt to take out OBL in Pakistan. More like a specfor/SEALs kind of operation, if it's done right.

That's one of the most heart-rending photos I've ever seen, btw. Your heart goes out to that young woman, who looks both very brave and very frightened. And the poor young man. Good God.
