Sharpton: Congress should grill Jena DA
By MARY FOSTER, Associated Press Writer

JENA, La. - Thousands of chanting demonstrators filled the streets of this little Louisiana town Thursday in support of six black teenagers initially charged with attempted murder in the beating of a white classmate. The crowd broke into chants of "Free the Jena Six" as the Rev. Al Sharpton arrived at the local courthouse with family members of the jailed teens.

Sharpton told the Associated Press that he and Reps. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, and William Jefferson, D-La., will press the House Judiciary Committee next week to summon the district attorney to explain his actions before Congress.

This could be the beginning of a 21st century's civil rights movement challenge disparities in the justice system, he said, and said he planned a November march in Washington.

"What we need is federal intervention to protect people from Southern injustice," Sharpton told the AP. "Our fathers in the 1960's had to penetrate the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, we have to do the same thing."

5. Ideally, the Louisiana AG would handle it
much as North Carolina's did with Nifong.

Alas, La. AG Charles Foti was a useless git when he was Orleans Parish (N.O.) criminal sheriff, and he's still a useless git today, as evidenced by his botched handling of the Memorial Hospital deaths during Katrina. Then again, at least we know he isn't camera-shy, so maybe we'll get some action from him after all!

6. Don't forget Breaux
Can't forget how Foti botched his handling on Sen. Breaux's eligibility to run for Governor. He completely whiffed on that one, also.

Because of that, we're likely to get 4 years of repuke rule in Louisiana. Grrrrrrr...

Come to think about it, besides selling other people's confiscated boats, cars and other stuff as "contributions," what HAS Foti accomplished? I'd love to see another Dem run for AG so we can get this DINO out of office...
