Iran warns West against attack
Source: Reuters

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran told Western powers on Saturday they would regret any attack over Tehran's nuclear activities and it rolled out a display of missiles and other military hardware to back the warning.

"Our message to the enemies is: Do not do it," the head of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards, Mohammad Ali Jafari, said, speaking to reporters less than a week after France's foreign minister publicly raised the prospect of war.

"They will regret it, as they are regretting it in Iraq," the commander added, speaking on the sidelines of an annual military parade just outside the capital.

The Islamic Republic put on show medium-range missiles it has said could reach Israel and U.S. bases in the Gulf at the parade marking the 1980-88 Iran-Iraq war.

1. This is beyond unacceptable..
While Cheney and Bush have their index finger poised and ready to begin bombing Iran, people need to hit the streets. It's time to show other countries that we do NOT approve of this administration and their insane plan. They are ruining the US and we are supposed to sit quietly and let it happen? WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?? WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE? The government is the voice of the people? - I don't think so.

The next big march on Washington is on Sept 29th.

2. This is the exact reason that impeachment needed to be
ON THE TABLE.

The whole world is watching and we still have people ignorant enough to believe that impeachment is not at all attainable and will come, if at all, after EVERYTHING else, including condemning a freakin ad!

Welcome to DU, rabies1! Nice profile and happy you are on board! It's going to be a very bumpy ride in the US soon, methinks. :hi:

12. before WW2, congress passed a bill demanding US neutrality. FDR wanted
to go to war against the nazis, but could not for 2 years. All congress had to do was pass the neutrality bill forbidding the war. of course, that would make the right create a "they attacked us" scenario, but it would certainly make it difficult.

13. No. Wish it were so, but bush can bomb the shit
out of Iran or Canada or anyplace else without Congressional approval. That's the Constitution and the War Powers Act. It sucks but that's the way it is.

16. I'm afraid you're exactly right..
It's truly horrifying to know that all that power is in their hands.
- And that they don't give a crap about us at all.

So what are they waiting for?
What is important to them now?

3. Tehran's nuclear activities
I am thankful that so many American citizens have spoken out loudly and clearly in disagreement with Bush-Cheney foreign policy. There are only 3 encouraging pieces of news regarding Iran in my mind: 1. The secrecy surrounding the recent bombing of an undisclosed target in Syria by Israel was clearly a warning to Syria & Iran by Israel. And the fact that Arab nations in the region didn't send up a howl of anger at Israel means that their fear of Syria and Iran's strengthening power in the area trumps their hatred for Israel and agree that something will ultimately have to be done about the Iranian nuclear threat. 2. The last time Russia really thought we were preparing an attack on Iran, it tried to call an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council. I don't believe they've started down this route lately. 3. The French and Europeans are mobilizing on the Iranian issue which will make unilateral and consequently doomed action by our President less likely.

It is a true tragedy that our country has George W. Bush in the White House at this pivotal time in our history. The Republican Party should really examine itself after coughing up a hairball like George Bush & depositing it on the front door of the White House in 2001. Experts warn that if Iran is attacked, they will probably mine the Persian Gulf & take other measures to dam the flow of oil to the West. This would probably precipitate a recession in our country and a significant military conflict in the region if not a conflagration. The Republicans had better use all the leverage they have with the nut in the White House to avoid a disaster for our country and the world basically precipitated by Bush's invasion & occupation of Iraq.

8. Glad to be here!
Thanks much for the welcome. I'm so happy to be here. I live in Kingsport, Tennessee which is overwhelmingly Republican, conservative, and religious rightist. There are a lot of good people here but many seem to fall into 2 categories: 1. They support the Republicans because of that party's expected support of big business above all else; and 2. They bought heavily into the Republican strategy of portraying themselves as God's representatives on earth. This is a frightening time.

17. I'm afraid the publican party don't get it, because they are about
to nominate another nut that might be even nuttier than Bush and that is Mr. 9/11 Rudy Gulianni or insane McCain who will no doubt elevate war in the region.

18. Very Good...
"coughing up a hairball and depositing it on the front door of the White House in 2001". Most representative of the Decider; a true "hairball" that will go down in history as just that.

4. Cautionary reminder:

The Clown from Crawford still has sixteen months left in his term as 'The Decider'.

Any LIHOP or MIHOP scenario could happen in that time.

The rethuglicans have lost their clout. The November elections and all the recent arrests and investigations have made that very clear. They are desperate for any rallying point.

Keep your guard up.

10. Isn't there an edit button at the bottom of the post?
You can hit edit if you want and correct it, but really, there are times when we all type very quickly and a spelling error like that isn't a big deal.

5. Fire Congress
Congress is a millionaires' club that has completely let the people down. They have backed the war profiteer coorporations and their fascist military police state policies to the point where millions of innocent people in countries all over the world are threatened by the FEAR, GREED, and AGRESSION of the United States of America, once "the last best hope" of humanity.

15. This is why I have no respect for Pelosi/Conyers and others who refuse to impeach
You could have prevented this war with Iran. You could have our troops home by now. You have blocked impeachment every step of the way and this is the result. You knew this is the way Bush and Cheney were. war monsters. and you did nothing to stop them. We did our part ...we elected you and marched to show our support and you turned your backs on all of us.

19. Another March in DC is scheduled for the 29th.
This will be my 2nd march for September. I hope this one, coming in 5 days, attracts even more people. The administration can't keep ignoring these huge crowds. Our voice is getting too loud.
I also fear the October surprise, the new product this fall, will be starting a war with Iran.
Wont it be too late then?
