Rendell Says Bush Child-Health Veto Would Be `Unacceptable'
Source: Bloomberg

Pennsylvania's Democratic Governor Edward Rendell said millions of children might be left without health insurance if President George W. Bush vetoes a $35 billion measure hammered out yesterday by congressional leaders.

Bush says he will veto legislation designed to expand the State Children's Health Insurance Program. The Senate Finance Committee says the bill would provide medical coverage for another 3.4 million children. Bush said in his weekly radio speech today that expansion of the program would raise taxes on workers and increase spending by as much as $50 billion.

``A veto battle in Washington would expose millions of children to the risk of losing insurance,'' Rendell said in the Democratic Party's weekly radio address. ``That's simply unacceptable.''

Rendell also said rule changes announced last month by the Bush administration might halt state efforts to cover more children. Congress should reverse the rule changes when it votes on the new legislation, Rendell said.

1. This needs to be played out in the press BIG TIME. While bush** is
vetoing insurance for children, he's gonna ask for more money for his war.

Let the repubics defend that one.

6. I think he was referring to the unborn
Once the birth process is complete, they're basically on their own. It doesn't cost a dime to be against anything (anti-choice), after all. Just use that freebie for polical fodder (aka: vote garnering wedge issue), and meanwhile slam the coffers shut to deny assistance to kids that are living, breathing, viable human beings. Family Values, gotta love 'em!

5. Do Bush's words sound like those of a Dictator or what?
Edited on Sat Sep-22-07 01:21 PM by Zambero
He accused the Congress of acting "irresponsibly" by passing a bill they knew would be vetoed. So in other words, Congress' job is simply to do the rubber-stamp bidding of this President, and shelf any legislation that might not have support of the administration, regardless of its merit? Whatever happended to checks and balances? Or adequately responding to the needs of constituents?

It could also be said that Bush acted irresponsibly by vetoing a bill with bipartisan support that he knew he should have signed. At any rate, Bush's priorities are quite clear: Continue to pour an infinite amount of red ink into a black hole (Iraq War), and disregard basic human needs on the home front.

9. What kind of misanthrope vetoes health care for his own country's children while continuing
to fund a war on innocent children in Iraq to the tune of $13 billion a month? $35 billion is less than 3 months of killing in Iraq alone.
