Death from cholera disclosed in Baquba, Iraq

A death from cholera was disclosed Sunday by local health sources in the Iraqi city of Baquba.

Ahmed al-Biaty, head of the Adly hospital in Baquba, 60 kilometres north of Baghdad, said that this is the first death resulting from the epidemic in the city.

Two of the dead person's family have caught the disease and are currently under supervision.

Iraq's Health Ministry confirmed last week cholera-related figures released earlier by the World Health Organization (WHO) according to which up to 16,000 people were suffering from acute diarrhoea.

They are saying it is because of contaminated water sources. Another article had a statement by a doctor who has been testing the chlorine levels of water in Baghdad and they were less than 25% of what is needed to kill bacteria. Turns out, we are blocking chlorine from entering Iraq because we feel "the bad guys" may get their hands on it to make IED's.
