Merkel angers China on Dalai Lama
Source: BBC

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has held historic talks with exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, in Berlin despite protests from China.

China had criticised the meeting and, shortly beforehand, cancelled talks with the German justice minister.

...
China also summoned the German ambassador in Beijing to complain.

A German government spokesman, Thomas Steg, said he was confident that the meeting would "not disturb the good state of German-Chinese relations and co-operation".

The "Tiger" is easy to irk.
Wherever I go China complains, said the Dalai Lama.
The Dalai was not irked by Chinese reactions, I presume. Who better than him would be able to remain indifferent to such "stalking"!?

4. I believe a friend of mine is traveling with him.
She is a documentary filmmaker.

The last time I spoke to her, she said she was with him and documenting this tour, visiting with different Heads of State(s).

5. Good for Merkel
The Dalai Lama is an inspirational person; and China's treatment of Tibet has been quite shameful.

9. Not really. Dell and Microsoft executives love giving China great deals...
Hey, it's a profitable hot market over there and, as with India, their middle class is booming.

It can't be that all bad.

11. I don't base my opinion on economics. Have you noticed what
China has done to Tibet? To the poor? To women? To voices of dissent? To journalists?

I find it laughable that China was appointed to the UN Human Rights Council. A government that tortures and executes at whim.

Have you read of the abuse of Buddhist monks and nuns/women/girls in Tibet? Nipples cut off with scissors, cattle prods used IN women/girls.

6. Did she treat him as a private figure or a "state official?"
That's what I would want to know. So long as she was not intimating that China does not exercise sovereignty in the Tibetan region, then I don't think they should view it as a big deal. The Dalai Lama does not even openly call for seceding from China.
