Burma march 'largest in 20 years'
Source: BBC

Burma's largest anti-government protest in nearly two decades has taken place in the former capital Rangoon, led by Buddhist monks and nuns.

Up to 20,000 people took to the streets on the seventh day of protests calling for an end to the "evil dictatorship".

Unlike a day earlier, police barred a group of monks from entering the road that leads to the home of detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

BBC South Asia correspondent Jonathan Head says every day the protests are growing in size - the campaign the monks began just six days ago is now openly challenging the military, urging all citizens to join in.

1. I heard those were kicking ass up and down the streets of Burma (Literally)
For some reason I find that to be very comforting.

2. I hope best of luck to the democratic forces in Myanmar.
There are many progressive political forces in Myanmar who are growing increasingly unhappy with the right-wing regime.

3. My husband was there in 1997
When he phoned me from there he said it was the most beautiful place he'd ever been- how wonderful everything was, how nice the people were , how clean and modern it all was. He was detained at Yangon airport on the return trip because he was traveling with some electronic equipment- he left it behind and paid off some people and got on the place to Thailand. When he hit LAX, he called me and told he that he was terrified he'd never see me or the kids again- that he'd end up in some Burmese prison indefinitely.

He of course was being listened to ( all international calls are tapped there) hence the description of Yangon as a paradise on earth,

He told me it was the scariest place he'd ever been- he almost literally kissed the ground in Bangkok when he got to Thailand.

For an example of what the "news" is like in Burma, check out this site.

I hope that the Burmese people can be freed from the regime there- they are truly an oppressed people.
