Calls for student editor to resign after 'F**k Bush' column
Source: CNN

FORT COLLINS, Colorado (CNN) -- The College Republicans, a student organization at Colorado State University, weren't planning anything special for the last week of September.

Then on September 21, David McSwane, the editor-in-chief of The Rocky Mountain Collegian, the daily student newspaper, printed the four-word column that sparked a national free speech debate and sent the College Republicans into action, writing a petition to force him to resign

"Taser this: F**k Bush" was printed on the opinion page of the newspaper, causing CSU president Larry Penley to issue a formal statement and the Board of Student Communications to plan a meeting for Wednesday night. During the meeting they will decide on the fate of McSwane and his future involvement with the publication.

"We'll present our petition to the board at the meeting," said student Chelsey Penoyer, the chairman of the College Republicans.

I'd say F**K just about sums up what BushCo is trying to do to the 1st Amendment.

9. We all read it...

from the excerpt above "the daily student newspaper, printed the four-word column"

It says right there it was a Four word column so no enlightenment is necessary.

15. Compare and Contrast
When it comes to President Bollinger insulting Ahmedinijad, the majority of posters oppose his comments - see Iranians angered by treatment of leader. The opposition is largely on the grounds that insulting a country's leader is a bad thing.

For the record, I think this was an example of poor judgment - a college newspaper should be more eloquent than this. It looks like a simple example of shock value. On the other hand, I don't think the college needs to do much about it either. I also thought that President Bollinger's comments were the absolute minimum needed to redeem that particular travesty, and wish he'd revoked the invitation in the first place.

11. Same guy who stung Army recruiters 2 years ago?
Edited on Tue Sep-25-07 03:01 PM by minnesota_liberal
This can't be a coincidence.

David McSwane is the high school journalist and honors student from Denver who posed as a dropout with a fondness for marijuana and then recorded Army recruiters who told him they'd sign him up if he ordered a fake diploma and took something to foil their drug test.

12. So if the "call to action" conservatives write a "Love Bush" column
they should all resign. I mean if the headline said "F**k Bush, Laura Won't" I may have a problem. Well, maybe not.

13. Here's My "Call to Action"
I call on all college republicans who support the chimp to enlist immediately. When chimpy invades Iran on some trumped up excuse ( and I can smell it coming ) we will not have anywhere near the number of troops needed to protect our country. You can be assured that the military draft WILL reappear. By enlisting now, the Brave College Repubs can choose their preferred branch of service. If they wait, well - you're in the army now, my friends. We shall see how that Big Talk protects them from bullets, rpg's, ied's, and missiles.
Something tells me they won't be cheering for war quite so loudly once they experience it for real. Idiots.

14. And the problem is???
Darth Cheney shoots a friend in the face and shoots off his mouth in Congress, so what did the editor do wrong? The First Amendment is being trashed, but oh don't touch the Second Amendment. While we are on the subject, Bush Co, Inc. is well on its way to trashing the Fourth Amendment. More power to you David McSwane. I would vote for you.

16. They should have asked for a more detailed column.
Anyone can say "Fuck Bush," and it makes a great headline. But let's hear why. The man's an editor-in-chief, he should be doing more.

This, however, made me laugh: "The petition also urges students to think twice before going to businesses who continue advertising with The Collegian."

Anyone who keeps advertising in a paper that's told the Chimp to fuck off is more likely to get my business.
