Condi Rice whistles 'Dixie' with Qaeda analogy
Source: NYDaily News

WASHINGTON - Gen. Ulysses Grant may be rolling in his tomb after Secretary of State Rice compared slain terror chief Abu Musab al-Zarqawi to the Civil War hero - and his Confederate counterpart Robert E. Lee.

Rice made the risky role switch to military historian yesterday, lauding Zarqawi's strategic genius as being on par with the revered Blue and Gray commanders.

Rice told Fox News that Zarqawi was "diabolically brilliant" and his loss was devastating to Al Qaeda in Iraq, much as the loss of Grant and Lee would have been to the Union and Confederate armies.

"When you hear people say ... 'If you kill one of them, they'll just replace him with another leader,' remember that that's like saying, 'If you take out Robert E. Lee or Ulysses S. Grant, well, they'll just replace them with another leader,'" Rice said.

2. "In the 1880s he (Grant) wrote that the war (Mexican War) was unjust, accepting the theory that it
was designed to gain land open to slavery."

Wonder what he would have said about a war for oil?

5. That is untenable and egregiously reprehensible.
What is wrong with these people. They would be better off if they just kept their mouths shut. But from our perspective I'll just say, "Keep talking, Condi."

"It's better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you are a fool than to open it and remove any lingering doubt."

7. It's so bad that someone should call the Senate to a complete
halt and write up a resolution to condemn Rice for besmirching the name of two great American Generals by comparing them to An Evil Doer....

6. 'Diabolically brilliant'? They really are in comic book territory now.
I don't know how they can keep a straight face.

8. Zarqawi was more akin to Nathan Bedfore Forrest or Phil Sheridan, I would say, based

on my knowledge of various "diabolically brilliant" leaders of the U.S. Civil War. If Grant and\or Lee has an analogue, it would probably be al Zawahiri. (Or perhaps al Zawahiri would be analagous to Winfield Scott, the US General in Chief who came up with the "Anaconda Strategy" of naval blockade and land incursions to strangle the South.)

Actually, if Lee (Zarqawi in Sleezy's analogue) had been killed, that might have left Longstreet in charge at Gettysburg and the whole U.S. Civil War might have turned out differently, as Longstreet would never have assaulted Meade frontally on the hills overlooking Gettysburg. In fact, Longstreet recommended to Lee that the Army of Northern Virginia attempt a flanking maneuver around Meade's Army of the Potomac to get between Meade and Washington, D.C. But Lee had his blood up and wouldn't listen to Longstreet.

12. Here you go...
Compared to Don Rumsfeld, Zarqawi is a strategic genius.

15. That's a pretty low bar, there...
Compared to Rumsfeld, any 10-year-old playing SOCOM is a military genius...

Not that pre-teens should be playing war games, but I'm just sayin'.

11. What a Truly Ignorant Thing to Say
Grant and Lee each commanded forces in the tens of thousands - in Grant's case in the closing years of the war, the hundreds of thousands. Zarqawi "controlled" a very loose "force" of hundreds - maybe.
Once again, Rice shows us her ignorance of history and military matters, as well as her blind obeisance to the Decider. Good Lord, keep your mouth shut if you don't know what you are talking about.
