Court lets DeLay indictment dismissal stand

AUSTIN — The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals on today rejected the state's motion for rehearing on its June dismissal of a criminal conspiracy indictment against former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

The decision clears the way for Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle to move toward trial for DeLay and two associates on other pending charges of money laundering and conspiracy to launder money.

Earle had sought a rehearing, saying the court's earlier decision had far-reaching ramifications for other criminal cases. The court held that the indictment was invalid because conspiracy to violate the election code, which it charged, wasn't made a crime until 2003.

3. Which was why I posted this

It now only appears to regularly make the news in Texas. Leaving the rest of the U.S. in the dark as to what's been taking place. Meanwhile, the Bugman is running around pretending that the dismissal of the one charge covered all his charges, which is a complete lie.

He'll be off to court on the other two charges in the somewhat near future now. I admit to being curious as to how much national press that will warrant.

2. The way this headline reads, it is hard to see this is bad for Delay

When one reads the Delay dismissal stands, wouldn't it be reasonable to think the case against Delay has been dismissed.

The article clarified that he'll stand trial for money laundering and conspiracy to launder money, quite serious charges.

Wonder when the trial date will be set?

I've kept abreast of the situation, so I knew what it was pertaining to. I doubt most people would know however.

read the body of the mnessage. It really IS weird the way the paper phrased it!

I don't understand why the indictment was sought or brought.

I like the fact that if I do something legal on Wednesday that is then made illegal on Thursday I can't be tried for it on Friday.
