UPDATED: 8:14 pm PDT September 26, 2007

3. Makes me wonder....
just WHO did the shooting? Sounds like a perfect psy-ops set up to discredit the peace marchers.

When did I become so :tinfoilhat: 'ish? I never used to suspect things like this before the Bush administration's vile deeds. Now I see conspiracies everywhere. Am I paranoid, or are they REALLY after me?

7. Perhaps if the were protesting something at the national level.
The Iraq war, Afghanistan, *.

In this case, it's city-level violence: Murders and gang violence.

"The shooting came just as hundreds of violence-weary citizens pitched tents in Richmond parks to protest the violence that plaguing the city. Organizers of the tent-laden protest said that ongoing crime wave has got to end and camping out is their way of saying 'enough is enough.'"

I think it's psy-ops. Just done by one of the local groups committing the violence, and rather liking it.

4. If only we had more assault rifles and cop-killer bullets all this violence would end.

8. You realize both of those are tightly controlled by Federal law, right?

"Cop-killer bullets" were banned in 1986. http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_gcgvcopk.html

Assault rifles (real ones) are very tightly controlled by the Title 2/Class III provisions of the National Firearms Act of 1934. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs.cmu.edu/user/wbardwel/public/nfalist/nfa_faq.txt

Non-automatic civilian rifles with modern styling ("assault weapons," not actual assault rifles) are legal--my wife and I own a couple--but are pretty much irrelevant to the crime picture.

http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2006/data/table_20.html
Total murders............................14,990.....100.00%
Handguns..................................7,795......52.00%
Other weapons (non firearm, non edged)....2,158......14.40%
Edged weapons.............................1,822......12.15%
Firearms (type unknown)...................1,465.......9.77%
Shotguns....................................481.......3.21%
Hands, fists, feet, etc.....................833.......5.56%
Rifles......................................436.......2.91%

Protruding rifle handgrips are also restricted in California, but not the rest of the nation.
