GALLUP: Trust in Federal Govt, On Nearly All Issues, Hits New Low -- Even Less Than in Watergate Era
Source: Editor & Publisher

NEW YORK A new Gallup poll reveals that, as the organization puts it, Americans now "express less trust in the federal government than at any point in the past decade, and trust in many federal government institutions is now lower than it was during the Watergate era, generally recognized as the low point in American history for trust in government."

Among the findings: Barely half trust the government to handle international problems, the lowest number ever. And less than half express faith in the government handling domestic issues, the lowest findings since 1976.

Faith in the executive branch has fallen to 43% -- only 3% higher than it was just before President Nixon's resignation in 1974. At the same time, trust in Congress, at 50%, is its lowest ever.

Gallup has asked about trust in government since 1972. It conducted this year's poll Sept. 14-16 and found the following:

1. it will plummet further if this congress does not do something.
will they realize that the American people are fed up. All the more reason for us to hit them back hard with our phone calls, time to take them off those pedestals that they sit on. Way past the time.

3. The senate is about to
confirm the criminal von Spakovsky to the FEC.

Surly no one wonders why the public has no trust in government.

7. Wouldn't a reasonable person think Congress already knows this and
for some reason we don't know...won't do anything about it? Do they want riots in the streets to bring the Government down...when they now have the power to do something for change...but don't seem to have the will?

9. this is why people wanted a Democratic Congress!
Democrats in Congress had almost ten months to hold impeachment hearings and expose the crimes and cover-ups in this administration. Even if the votes couldn't be found to impeach and remove this President, at least those serving under him would be forced to testify under oath and answer questions. this Democratic Congress treats Bush no differently than the old Republican majority. people know this White House is corrupt, and because Bush isn't running for reelection, Congressional Democrats will suffer most in 2008.

Democrats had nothing to lose by holding hearings and exposing the truth, but their failure to do this now leaves voters searching for someone in power to blame!

4. those neo cons think we are asleep at the wheel, apparently
we are not, but we still question how many americans are awake, well, we know that this vile and corrupt regime is not living in reality, doesn't anyone remember how they thought they were going to win in November 2006 well they didn't, again shows their true disconnect with the American people, we should give them another jolt!!

5. Well, my goodness.
Fox News says that trust in Congress is at 11%, way lower than Bush. Do you mean that they were LYING to me?

(It's part of my job to have to listen to Fox every now and then. Actually the political part isn't the bad part -- it's the tendency towards all thing OJ that wears me out in the end.)
