Hagel (R-Ne) introduces health care legislation
Source: Associated Press

Sen. Chuck Hagel is introducing his own version of health care reform.

The Nebraska Republican's measure, called the Federal Health Care Board Act of 2007, would create a 12-member federal government board modeled after the Federal Reserve Board.

Among other things, the agency would establish national standards for basic health plans and establish national standards for policy minimums. It also would implement a clearinghouse structure for the disclosure of pricing from providers and payers.

Hagel stresses the board would not set a pricing floor or ceiling, because that's for the market to determine.

3. Obviously, this legislation is worthless
Without some mechanism in place to keep prices in check, this is just the same old song and dance. But it isn't like the good senator has to worry if he'll be cared for.

4. where are the tax cuts for people who can't affort to purchase
health care isurance in the first place? With out bogus tax incentives this barely qualifies as a republican health care plan.
Looks like the only real thing this board will accomplish is to line the pockets of those who get appointed. way to go Hagle, great idea.

5. That's for the market to determine?????????? WTF??????
The "market" is what got us into this mess. The "market" has decided to squeeze every dime out of people that it can, cover little and pay their CEOs hundreds of millions of dollars. The "market" makes billions in profit every quarter. These people need their damn taxpayer-funded health insurance policies revoked.

9. The "Market" is the corporatist's God
It will make everything right and those who do not listen will be punished. To say anything against the "Market" is blasphemy and you will be labeled a "socialist" or even a "communist".
:sarcasm:

I think you've hit on something important - namely how an unregulated "market" is abused by greedy people and is one of the root causes of poverty. It isn't a self-regulating entity. I'm disappointed in Hagel. Once again, a republican puts business ahead of people. He's either evil (and knows that big business will continue to control health care) or delusional (and really believes the story). Some people never learn or are just too afraid to care about the welfare of others they don't know personally.

7. And what exactly is the Federal Reserve?
Who are they...private (global) bankers? Who will be Federal Health Care Board? Insurance companies?

I am not exactly sure just who are the Federal Reserve, and now this? More government growth, and just who would it benefit? Something doesnt smell right.
