10. Delays' immoral words
In 1998, Republican Congressman Tom Delay called the CNMI a "perfect Petri dish of capitalism." And two years later, in addressing the Governor of the Islands, Delay famously said:

"You are a shining light for what is happening in the Republican Party, and you represent everything that is good about what we’re trying to do in America in leading the world in the free-market system."

Mission complete.

BASED ON ALL AVAILABLE DATA A DESTRUCTIVE PACIFIC-WIDE TSUNAMI IS
NOT EXPECTED AND THERE IS NO TSUNAMI THREAT TO HAWAII. REPEAT. A
DESTRUCTIVE PACIFIC-WIDE TSUNAMI IS NOT EXPECTED AND THERE IS NO
TSUNAMI THREAT TO HAWAII.

Phew!

Then again, we have a sister agency on Saipan that spun off from us only about three years ago. :scared:

6. CRUMB All those billion dollar RW gambling casinos
and those poor island people who are enslaved to work for low wages in them.

Think of all the money invested in those islands, and then pooof an earthquake.

Okay, I feel sorry for the natives, but lets face it, I hope nature screws the resorts there up bigtime.

(apologies to any du members who happen to have money in an offshore account there.)

8. Guam is in the Marianas. That's where lots and lots of military are headed.
Maybe it's karma?

And trust me, Guam is composed of gazillion dollar high dollar stores to attract all the Japanese vacationers that go there.
It is backward, way-y-y backward, but not for tourists usually.

7. I know it will sound terible right now, and I feel for the people. But all these big quakes recently
are giving me hope. If all of this seismic activity leads to a few big blows, it might just slow down global warming enough to give us a chance to get our shit together before game over.

11. Increased tectonic activity in the ring of fire has a good chance of setting off
a whole lot of volcanoes.

13. Mariana Islands Temblor Misread as Six Local Earthquakes
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- A massive earthquake thousands of miles away in the Mariana Islands was misread as a Bay Area swarm this morning by Northern California sensors.

The 7.4 quake struck 162 miles under the surface in the Marianas, and emitted the same frequency as local quakes, leading Northern California sensors to read it as six Bay Area temblors.

The mistake was due to a glitch in software, and could happen again, according to Northern California Seismic Network Seismic Chief David Oppenheimer. He said that since the computer system isn’t accustomed to hearing quakes on the other side of the earth, it can be confused into reporting erroneous quakes to transit and emergency centers.
