Dems criticize Limbaugh's comments

By HOLLY RAMER, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 5 minutes ago

CLAREMONT, N.H. - Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards criticized Rush Limbaugh on Friday for referring to some members of the military as "phony soldiers."

For his part, Limbaugh said he was referring only to one soldier recently convicted of lying about his service.

Edwards and the campaign of fellow Democrat Chris Dodd took issue with the radio talk show host's characterization of Iraq war veterans who have spoken out against the war. Limbaugh was responding to a caller who argued that anti-war groups "never talk to real soldiers."

"They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media," the caller said.

"The phony soldiers," Limbaugh responded.

2. dodd and Edwards here:

Campaigning in New Hampshire, Edwards called on Republicans to denounce Limbaugh in the same way they came down on Democrats after the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org ran an advertisement criticizing Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq.

"All these Republicans went running to the mic and the TV cameras when MoveOn ran their ad about General Petraeus. Now let's see if they really mean it," Edwards said. "Let's see if they'll speak out against Rush Limbaugh. Let's see if they'll challenge him about men and women who have worn the uniform of the United States."

Dodd's spokesman, Hari Sevugan, also weighed in.

"It's ironic, if not remotely surprising, that Rush Limbaugh — who makes his living shooting his mouth off — would impugn the patriotism and service of American troops simply because they have voiced their opposition to this failed policy," he said in statement. "It's clear that he has no idea what the brave men and women of our armed forces are ostensibly fighting for."

3. Heh.. yeah.. "only one soldier"..
because, you know, I always pluralize nouns when I'm actually only talking about a singular. Well, maybe if I was strung-out on some of the shit he's been addling his brain with.

14. the guy served for 40 days and never left boot camp was being quoted by the media
for atrocities he committed in Iraq.
MSM should have vetted their source(s). That guy wasn't the first to make false accusations but I think he was the first to serve jail time (5 months) that will exceed his time serving in the military.

6. All Limbaugh is really good for is
for a bunch of right-wing dittoheads getting together over the weekend for bbq'd hamburgers and hot dogs and kegs of beer shooting their mouths of with each other about Limbaugh's latest ravings about those dambed libruls. I've seen it in person. They actually spend all day regurgitating to each other Limbaugh's and Hannity's latest BS rants and smears, as if to one-up each other on how well each has mastered the art of becoming an endless tape-loop of regurgitated right-wing media crapola. Then they talk to their wives about how so-and-so knows so much about politics.

16. We live with that all the time here
in Georgia. They are so in the majority that they reenforce their beliefs with each other and it never ends. Only one or two Dems in our neighborhood and we are berated and beaten down day after day. I now am refusing to talk with any of my husband's golfing buddies who are the worst. I have found friends elsewhere and would give my life just to move out of this state.

9. Ok, where is Senator Clinton's comment? She was quick to come out and condemn Kerry for his missing...
a word in a joke about Bush and playing along with the Republican lies that he was belittling our troops. Where is she now? What is taking her so long to add her opinion to this outrageous comment from Limbaugh.

17. If you are looking for her to 'lockstep' over a punchline then the joke is on you
maybe she knows the true context the soundbyte was extracted from. The joke is actually on the media but they won't revisit the original story

18. Wisteria is right
The text was given to the media ahead of time. The full speech was on Kerry's web site. The context was Bush did not do the necessary planning for the war - a point Kerry has made since spring 2003.

Kerry has demonstrated for 4 decades a commitment to servicemen and vets, that Hillary Clinton can in no way come close to achieving.

10. Phony water carrier making phony excuses.

Rush, I know you lurk here. Do you value our democratic republic so little? You know you speak lies every day. You make a nest for the vile lawbreakers who have become our lawmakers. Have you no shame?

13. Where the fuck are the senators and congresspeople
in offering a formal resolution condemning him?

Since that vote to condemn Move On, I've been more disgusted with the party than ever before.
