Ben Stevens speaks out on corruption probe
Source: Anchorage Daily News

Note that headline has changed since this was first posted on the ADN web site. It's from the ADN's politics blog, run by Kyle Hopkins of the ADN staff:

UPDATE: Click here

http://www.adn.com/static/multimedia/audio/political_corruption/bstevens-on-fagan/9-28-07-benstevens-danfagan.mp3

to listen to Ben Stevens on the Dan Fagan show. (Note that it's a long clip and could take awhile to load.)

Ben Stevens just called in to Dan Fagan’s show on KFQD. It’s been impossible to talk to Stevens about the ongoing corruption trials and investigations -- he hasn't talked about it since the initial raids of legislative offices last August -- so hearing him talk even peripherally about this stuff is like glimpsing a unicorn or Bigfoot.

(snip)
Stevens said he's being investigated by the Department of Justice, the National Marine Fisheries Service and the IRS.

(snip)
Fagan asked if Stevens is worried about his father, Sen. Ted Stevens’, future.

Ben Stevens said: “My father’s been in politics for 57 years. He’s been investigated numerous times. This is a feeding frenzy…”

What's most interesting about this is the blogging from former United Fishermen of Alaska President Bob Thorstenson, a Repug friend of Ben Stevens, along with accusations against him & Ben from another fisherman about hiding payments to Ben, something that apparently is already being investigated as Ben says in his on-air comments.

Anyone tracking the VECO cases and Totally Tubular Ted's problems should be reading the ADN politics blogs and the ADN Newsreader, which tracks reports in other media on Alaska political news. The Daily Snooze, however has lost the Pulitzer Prize winning investigative reporting capability that it had before it was sold to McClatchy and Howard Weaver moved to Sacramento. These days, TPMMuckraker has been breaking Alaska corruption stories before the News.

The whole blog is worth reading.

1. That's the problem with growing up corrupt: you lack the necessary PERSPECTIVE to feign honesty.
Ted is busting his ass to pretend that he
and his dad aren't blatant crooks, and he
HONESTLY doesn't understand why no one is
being fooled by his ridiculous posturing.

He's so out of touch with people who care
about such esoteric concepts as "truth"
and "responsibility", he's reached the
rarely-seen "let them eat cake" level of
utter cluelessness.

I'd feel sad for him if he wasn't such
an assholish CANCER upon the body human.

2. OK, nothing to do with the original post, but....
Ben Stevens?? Does that rhyme with Sen. Stevens? How vain.

3. A feeding frenzy, Benny?
Sharks don't go into a frenzy unless there's something in the water, chum.
