War Protest Draws Small Crowd
Participants Cite Public Apathy in Low Turnout for Rally at the Capitol

By Carol D. Leonnig
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, September 30, 2007; Page A17

Hundreds of demonstrators, including students and families, rallied and marched in downtown Washington yesterday to protest the war in Iraq, complaining that the Democratic-controlled Congress has failed to do the public's bidding and bring U.S. troops home.

From an elevated stage in front of the Capitol Reflecting Pool, a succession of speakers at the "Stop the War" rally urged Congress to stop funding the conflict and prevent more deaths of soldiers and Iraqi civilians.

"On September 11, I witnessed almost 3,000 people killed in New York," said John Graham, a volunteer emergency medical technician from New Jersey who helped treat victims of the World Trade Center attack that day six years ago. "Now we've had more than 3,000 U.S. troops killed in Iraq. It's more than enough. It's time to stop the death."

1. At least SOMEONE is speaking out on behalf of our troops...
I just have to wonder what the hell happened to the 110th Congress sometimes.

2. The day any antiwar demo would draw a large crowd in the WP
Would be a very surprising day for us all. They haven't actually focused on bringing word out about the demos the last week, have they?

A full week of demonstrations and activity becomes a 'small crowd'.

4. Same here at home. We didn't get a line of print
and we had 1000+. San Francisco is not a big town. It's pretty hard to miss a thousand people unless you close your eyes and stop your ears. lol

3. With the MSM it seems like the smaller the protest the more likely
you are to get media coverage. The love the "few showed up to an antiwar rally today" stories. Yet, when many show up you see almost no coverage of it. I love how this article doesn't mention just two weeks ago there was a protest of 100,000 people in DC, and earlier this year there was both a protest of 40,000 and 200,000 in DC. No, it just talks about how difficult it is to get people to come out to an antiwar rally. What utter bullshit.
