Bill Clinton wades in to defend Hillary’s reputation
Source: The Times

Tim Reid

Bill Clinton leapt to his wife’s defence yesterday after Barack Obama, her leading rival for the Democratic presidential nomination, said that she had the wrong kind of experience to lead America.

Mr Obama slighted Hillary Clinton by saying that she had “worked the system” when First Lady and subsequently as a New York senator.

Implying that she is nothing more than a cynical political insider, Mr Obama said that America did not need “the kind of experience that tinkers around the edges instead of doing something fundamental” to tackle the country’s problems.

Speaking to This Week, an ABC programme, Mr Clinton accused Democratic rivals who criticised his wife of “rewarding the Republican attack machine” that had “beaten up on her for 16 years”. Mr Clinton’s response ended a weekend in which both men openly attacked each other in a new proxy war to shape voters’ perceptions of Mrs Clinton and whether she or Mr Obama has the best experience for the presidency.

1. I call BS, Bill! What were you and Hillary doing publicly supporting Bush from 2001-2006?
You think that you weren't rewarding BushInc at the expense of ALL Democrats who opposed him and at our eventual nominee's expense all that time?

You and Hillary should DARE lecture us about the last 6 years while YOU were palling with the architect of the BFEE and publicly supporting the dictatortots policies on terrorism and Iraq war at every public opportunity you were given.

WE DEFENDED YOU consistently since 1992 and you turned around an fucked us all over by siding so much with Bush and Lieberman.

Not to mention how you swept all the outstanding matters of Poppy Bush's criminal operations under the rug once you took office in 1993.

Bush2 NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.

http://consortiumnews.com/2006/111106.html

And you insult all of us who fought for change and accountability for Bush's government corruption in BCCI and CIA drugrunning when you wouldn't even mention those outstanding matters in your book.

2. I so agree with you. And I've said so many times. So, from experience I
say, I hope you have on your flame-proof undies.

But again, you are absolutely right.

3. blm, you are so right!
Thanks. I had not thought of this. The Clintons have supported the Bush family in so many, many ways over the Bush presidency. It is shocking. Especially since the Bushies have been so nasty to the Clintons.

4. I don't think so - it's starting to look like the friction was pure dog and pony show

the way rival football teams put on rallies.

Bush1 was heading for impeachment when that BCCI report was ready to come out after the Nov 1992 election - he had political cutthroats working for him and he just happened to run the worst campaign ever?

BushInc became stronger in the 90s with no congressional oversight of his operations.

And Bill was UNUSUALLY magnaminous towards Poppy and his administration throughout, even when the CIA drugrunning report came out in 1996.

Point was that BushInc got stronger in the 90s and they couldn't have done that if they had been made accountable - even Marc Rich was a pardon of a named figure in BCCI and IranContra - just another tax evader my ass.

And it is difficult to believe that the benefactor of both presidents was Jackson Stephens who also helped stake WalMart and was also a named figure in BCCI operations.

How many coincidences are we supposed to swallow before the global fascism falls on this country like a lead zeppelin?

12. Well said.... 'Dog & Pony Show' ....
and it makes me sick that i defended them right through 2002. Many of us used to get all starry eyed here on DU about 'Big Dawg' sightings. I wonder how many Democrats out there now see the Clintons for what they were...how they let the American people down. The RW attacked them so much but it's typical with what they do...always pointing in one direction in lock step while the real stuff is going on in the other direction. Many of us got so caught up in defending Clinton's we couldn't focus on how they were working with the Repugs.

5. So if a candidate fails to take on Hillary, that candidate doesn't know how to
step into the fray. And if a candidate does take on Hillary, he's assisting the right wing.

10. Oh my my I could have predicted what
you posted. The strange thing is WJC was on the Sunday talk shows for a reason and that reason was not there to promote HRC and her run for the nomination. You wanna know so you can at least be made aware? If not here it is anywho.

After getting hundreds of pledges to tackle the world's problems at his philanthropic summit this past week, former President Bill Clinton did what any good host would: He threw a party.

Music, celebrity and politics mixed Saturday night at Harlem's Apollo Theatre, where Clinton was joined by Bono, Chris Rock, Shakira and Alicia Keyes for a roundtable discussion on youth activism.

Clinton called on each young member of the audience to "be a citizen servant, a giver, because we have to have a vital society," before announcing the Clinton Global Initiative's first youth summit, called CGI U, planned for next year at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Like the three-day Clinton Global Initiative philanthropic summit this week, the college version aims to bring together attendees to tackle global issues like sustainable development and poverty.

"What we are trying to do is make activism cool again for kids," Rock said.

The former president and the other superstar panelists took questions from the audience before giving up the stage to performances by hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean and soulful singer Keyes.

Clinton got some laughs from the crowd when he told them he was fulfilling a lifelong ambition.

"You know, I grew up playing music, and all my life I've wanted to play the Apollo," he said.

At this week's event, participants including heads of state, celebrities and business executives made 245 pledges on efforts such as treating neglected tropical diseases, protecting forests and enabling children to go to school for the first time.

Many of the celebrities on hand Saturday night had already made promises this past week at the summit.

Shakira said she would commit $40 million to help Peru and Nicaragua through ALAS, a coalition of artists and intellectuals committed to social change in Latin America.

MTV, which is partnering with the Clinton initiative on the youth activism summit, was to broadcast Saturday's event on several of its networks and online at its recently launched Think.MTV.com Web site.

9. "He's a hard dog to keep on the porch."
Did he jump off the porch to "wade in" to Hillary's campaign?

Personally, I think DUers should be supportive of Democrats everywhere. We're all in this together. And the freepers really enjoy it when we jump on Dems.

11. “rewarding the Republican attack machine”
That's EXACTLY what the Clintons did by supporting the telecommunications bill and by appointing Micheal Powell to the FCC.

This despite the fact that the corporate media never gave them a break from the very first day they stepped foot into the White House.

13. The results of that have allowed America to be
flooded with propaganda and go into an illegal war. And what is Congress doing about the media? Nothing. Maurice Hinchley (DNY) says he will put out legislation to break up media monopoly. I'm sure he has good intentions...but we all know how far the good intentions will get.

I almost feel our Dems are very happy with what's going on. They always say they don't have the votes...yet we now know that they make sure they don't have the votes before the voting starts.

16. What? Hilary can't defend herself?
This woman has accomplished NOTHING on her own. She's in the Senate because hubby had established his big money corporate ties to get into the presidency and he used those same sources to shove her into the Senate. Lucky for them the Republicans put up weak candidates against her. Its all been on her husband's coattails and NOW he has to defend her? The Clintons - shoving feminism back 50 years.

17. How did Hillary get to be #1 anyway?
.. maybe I'm not representative, but I don't know of one person who supports her. Sure, she has name recognition but that's it.

18. Hillary Clinton is the conservative media’s favorite Democrat, what does that tell you,
she will continue too promote conservative ideology and goals if elected. So if Clinton supporters like the direction this country has been going in, then by all means vote for the corporate elite’s status quo’s right wing media favorite democrat at your own peril, but don’t expect much to change for the better, because after all she will be taking orders, 'from the status quo'.
