Man accused in sex-tape case in custody
By RYAN NAKASHIMA, Associated Press Writer

LAS VEGAS - A man accused of holding and showing off a tape depicting the sexual assault of a 3-year-old girl was taken into custody Sunday on a probation violation, authorities said.

Darrin Tuck, 26, arranged to surrender after evading arrest since Friday, said Nye County Sheriff Tony DeMeo. Prosecutors are set to formally charge Tuck with possession of child pornography and possibly promoting child pornography on Monday, DeMeo said. Tuck had been on probation for desertion and failure to pay child support, but his probation was revoked, authorities said. Officials were unable to arrest him Friday night because he could not be found.

His defense attorney, Harry Kuehn, said probation was revoked on "a technicality" for not paying child support. DeMeo said the revocation came after Nevada's Division of Parole and Probation learned the district attorney would file formal criminal charges.

Tuck has told authorities he found the tape in the desert, but authorities said he possessed it for as long as five months before turning it in. He was arrested earlier this month in the case and released without bail pending a court appearance.

1. It's the guy who claims to have found the tape in the desert.

Not the one on the tape.
I just think the title of that article is poorly written and could be misleading, as people might think the guy on the tape got caught.

2. Not the same guy.
The man on the video - Chester Arthur Stiles - is still on the lamb.

5. Photo of Wanted Guy
Edited on Sun Sep-30-07 08:44 PM by JPZenger
The following link includes a photo of the scumball who is still wanted for assaulting the little girl. This article also says the girl is safe with her own family, and her mother says she did not even know she had been assaulted.

In regards to the guy who said he found the tape in the desert, that doesn't seem right. If you found a tape sitting in the desert, would you put it into your VCR? I'd be afraid it was melted and would gum up the machine.

6. I don't think putting a found tape in the VCR is that odd
I once stuffed a found VCR tape in my pack, and planned to stick it in the machine when I got home.

Curiosity.
Who would dump a tape on a hiking trail, and what could be on it?

The actual tape was broken so I ended up tossing it.

7. The problem is that he kept quiet about a criminal act for 4+months
Cops in a press conference said he lied about how long he had it and they have reason to believe he'd had it since May. In that time, he'd shown it to at least one other person.

8. I don't know how long he kept that tape. I believe his lawyer

disputes he actually showed it to other people to view.
The problem I have with it is that police are always telling people to be vigilant and report suspicious things. This guy reported it and now apparently they want to charge him with child porn possession, etc. Let's say he is telling the truth and actually found that tape in the desert. Let's say someone else finds something like that. Would that person be afraid of being charged and thus not turn it over to the police?

14. he could have just mailed it anonymously to the police
couldn't he? maybe with a note saying he'd found it & did not want to be in possession of it?

9. I'm not defending him
I really know very little about the whole thing.
I was simply pointing out that "finding a tape" and taking it home to watch it isn't that odd.

If I recall correctly, he also claims to have had negative run-ins with the local police that made him hesitant to turn it in.

I don't find that im-plausible either.

I've wondered before (strange person that I am) what I would do if I ever found a dead body.
My experiences with the police lead me to believe if I turned it in *I would end up in jail... so I would most likely continue on my way and say nothing to anybody.

Sad but true.

10. Not a "sex tape"
I wish the media would stop referring to this as a sex tape. This is a tape showing a vile human being raping and torturing a baby.

11. Yes, WHY are they persisting with this language? They are in the writing business, for god's sakes
After days and days, this mislabeling can't be an accident.

12. Could it be because sex tape has become synonymous with
showing the sexual degradation of another human being, child or adult?
