Suspected Nazi War Criminal Found In Metro Atlanta
Source: wsbtv.com

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Nazi hunters have tracked a suspected World War II concentration camp guard to Lawrenceville.

Members of the Justice Department's elite Nazi tracking force said Paul Henss, 85, served as a prison guard and attack dog handler at the notorious Dachau and Buchenwald Concentration Camps in Nazi Germany.

The Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security have asked an immigration judge in Atlanta to deport Henss.

Officials said Henns entered the United States in 1955 after concealing his concentration camp service.

No, I'm not calling them Nazis, but there would be a fair amount of agreement.

2. Sadly, I'm not surprised he was living in Lawrenceville...
It is among those little towns turned Atlanta suburbs that has yet to come fully into the 21st century and is among those that harbor quite a few white supremacists/KKK members and sympathizers.

3. Sounds like the Justice Dept. could continue to smoke out the town for bombmaking 1960s Klansmen
More than a few places were bombed or torched by the Klan in those days.

14. Gwinnett County - also home to a very diverse set of people
I live in Gwinnett. Just googled the guy's name and address and found out that I pass his subdivision every time I go to my mom's house!

While Gwinnett isn't perfect (and face the truth, even places like New York city harbor racists), it is an extremely diverse area. My subdivision has the following living here: African Americans, South Africans, Iranian, Cuban, Mexican, Korean, Japanese, Croatian, Canadian, Vietnamese and who knows what other nationalities are represented. The vast majority of people are from somewhere else, with an amazing number of New York and New Jersey transplants. No one is burning crosses. No one is vandalizing homes. No one is hasselling the gay kids or the transsexual woman.

21. Russ Bellant was tracking this issue in 1991
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 03:45 PM by RainDog
as in his book Old Nazis, New Right and the Republican Party

From Library Journal
Bellant convincingly documents three arguments in this short, journalistic book. First, many people who had been active in Nazi or pro-Nazi groups in Eastern Europe in the 1930s and 1940s subsequently came to this country, often under the auspices of the Displaced Persons Commission. Second, many of these emigres then became active in political and ethnic groups affiliated with the Republican Party, providing financial and electoral support and crusading relentlessly against Communism. Third, and most important, some of the most unsavory elements of the anti-Communist right gained a foothold in official foreign policy circles under Reagan. Bellant's case is strong and disturbing, but his book is terribly organized, and the meaningful arguments are mixed in with overstated claims (especially the suggestions of a fascist conspiracy) and charges based only on political disagreement, not malfeasance. An optional purchase.
-Timothy Christenfeld, Columbia Univ.
