U.S. in Iraq says finds list of foreign fighters
Source: Reuters

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The U.S. military said on Wednesday it had discovered a list of some 500 al Qaeda militants recruited to fight in Iraq from a range of European, Middle East and north African countries.

Spokesman Major-General Kevin Bergner said the information was unearthed in September when a senior al Qaeda in Iraq member, called Muthanna, was killed along with seven other militants near Sinjar in northwest Iraq.

...

"Muthanna was the emir of Iraq and Syrian border area and he was a key facility of the movement of foreign terrorists once they crossed into Iraq from Syria. He worked closely with Syrian-based al Qaeda foreign terrorist facilitators," he said.

Bergner told a news conference that the information discovered included 143 biographies of foreign recruits, with personal data, photographs, their recruiters' names, date of entry into Iraq and the route they took.

"They came from a range of foreign countries that included Libya, Morocco, Syria, Algeria, Oman, Yemen, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom," he said.

1. I am just so skeptical of stories like this; I guess I really have lost
my trust and faith for anything said, by anyone, concerning Iraq.

4. I am skeptical too. It could be true wich serves to show to what
degree we've brought al Quaeda into Iraq and around the world. On the other hand, it may be a sketchy list of people for God knows what to be used as ammunition for further escalation. I thought, when I read the title of this post, that this list was going to contain Iranian names....to help keep Iran in a negative light.

6. doubtful
It's very doubtful that Al Qaeda would be recruiting Shiites from Iran. They MAY (that's a big if though) work with Iran on technology/information transfers, but they still hate the Shiites more than they do the United States.

7. New joke: How many Americans , how many years. and how much money does it take to stop
500 al Qaeda militants? Punchline: We won't find out for another 50 years!

Did everyone else notice that Iran isn't on the list? "They came from a range of foreign countries that included Libya, Morocco, Syria, Algeria, Oman, Yemen, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom," he said

11. Because, according to GOP logic, Iran is the chief supplier of the insurgency in Iraq and
is sneaking thousands of fighters across the border every day. That's what some of the idiot GOP Reps. and Senators have been saying. Oh, and ask John Bolton, Bill Kristol, or any other Neo-con and they'll be glad to tell you what a threat Iran is to the USA.

14. Re: "how much money does it take... "
And don't forget the AQ in Iraq are growing, so in 50 years (if we don't 'win') they may become a majority
