Approval of Bush, Congress Hits New Low
Source: Associated Press

(10-04) 08:36 PDT WASHINGTON, (AP) --

Public approval for President Bush and Congress has sunk to the lowest levels ever recorded in The Associated Press-Ipsos poll.

Only 31 percent said they approve of the job Bush is doing, according to the survey released on Thursday. Though his positive ratings have hovered at about that range since last year, his lowest previous approval in the AP-Ipsos survey was 32 percent, which was recorded several times, most recently in June. That is virtually even with the latest reading.

--
Congress' job performance was approved by just 22 percent, continuing a gradual decline in the public's assessment since Democrats took over in January. Its lowest reading in the poll was 24 percent, recorded most recently in July.

AP-Ipsos polling began in December 2003.

President Truman's approval ratings of 23 percent recorded in both 1951 and 1952 were the lowest ever recorded by the Gallup Poll. Congress' Gallup Poll low was 18 percent in 1992.

1. And this was before he vetoed the children's insurance legislation.
I can't understand why he is not just in the toilet. I don't know anyone who can stand him anymore - even my rabid Republican friends want him gone.

6. It's simple really. 31% of Americans hate poor children (and hate the poor in general). Most of
those 31% are Repukes.

3. And in another poll released this week
(don't recall which one) the number of Americans identifying themselves as republican is at its lowest number in seven years. Another great bush legacy.

4. If so many people are against the war, why are Congressional
Democrats so timid?

10. The immediate answer: Congress doesn't have the votes...
the other answer: it doesn't matter how many people oppose the War and Bush, he WILL NOT CHANGE. He has a long-term plan (imperial control abroad and consolidated & centralized police/military domestically) and he is in the process of accomplishing his plan. He couldn't care less about the people's views or even the views of his own party. Please understand: Bush is smart, aggressive to a fault, and won't let up.

15. A majority is against the war. A majority is NOT in favor of stopping funding.
which is really the only real power congress has to stop the war (and it isn't certain that would work).

(Of course, an argument can be made that congress should stop funding anyway, even though only a small percentage of Americans favor that. However, that argument isn't consistent with the argument that congressional democrats ought to do something because so many people are against the war.)

14. Seems like congressional approval polls seldom made the news
until the Dems took it over. And it was lower with Repubs in charge.

Maybe the Republican media machine is pushing this.
