Bush to Syria: Don't meddle in Lebanon
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - President Bush warned Syria Thursday against interfering in Lebanon's presidential election and said he is sending a top military commander to Beirut to find more ways to help Lebanon fight extremists.

"The United States strongly supports the success of democracy in Lebanon," Bush said after meeting with Saad Hariri, leader of the anti-Syrian majority in Lebanon's parliament. "The United States is more than just an admirer. We want to help as best as we possibly can."

The United States has provided military assistance to Saniora's government to help it fight Hezbollah and other radicals. Bush said Adm. William Fallon, commander of U.S. forces in the Middle East, would travel to Lebanon to see what more could be done.

"We respect your country and we understand the obstacles that you face," Bush told Hariri.

Hariri, a billionaire businessman who is close to the Saudi royal family, leads the largest bloc in Parliament and is tapped to possibly be the next prime minister under a new president. He has in recent days repeatedly stressed the need to reach agreement to elect a president to avoid a power vacuum.

14. Hey, the US never meddles in the affairs of any other country.
We occasionally help them by sending in 200,000 soldiers, destroying their army and infrastructure, deposing, jailing, trying, and killing their leaders, imposing a 15% flat tax, disbanding their military and police, banning their political party, jailing and torturing innocent civilians, and so forth. How in the hell could those trivialities be construed as meddling?

12. Just encouraging?
More like selling huge amounts of weapons so that Israel can bomb Lebanon with those cluster bombs which maim the civilian population in Lebanon up to this day.

13. George Bush: Meddler in Chief.
By the way, that's Planetary Meddler in Chief and he doesn't take kindly to just anyone infringing on his franchise.

I bet Bush runs with scissors too! What a goof.

15. He is right
Of course, it's hypocritical. And he has little credibilty because of Iraq, among others.

Still, any administration discouraging Syria meddling in Lebanon is a positive thing.
