N.H. tax evaders taken into custody after standoff
Source: CNN

From CNN's Deb Feyerick and Eden Pontz

(CNN) -- A couple convicted of tax evasion was taken into custody after a five-month-long standoff with federal agents in New Hampshire, a federal law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN

Ed and Elaine Brown, who had refused to surrender to authorities to serve their prison sentences, were taken into custody without incident Thursday evening by U.S. Marshals at about 8:00 p.m.

The Browns had been holed up in their concrete-reinforced home in Plainfield, New Hampshire.

They were convicted of evading $1.9 million in taxes -- a crime punishable by up to five years in prison. The Browns were sentenced in absentia in April.

2. No sympathy here
These two are far right lunatics, and their followers are made up mainly of knuckle dragging baboons.

3. No sympathy from me
Anyone who feels sorry for these folks is either ignorant of the facts of the case or a right wing libertarian.

The Feds let this one drag on way too long.

5. I agree
Stephen Monier was clearly in way over his head. He's a small town police chief who got the US Marshall's job because he is from a prominent GOP family. He screwed around for months and gave the appearance that he was afraid of upsetting New Hampshire's libertarian screwball faction.

4. all talk and no walk, weren't they, but i'm glad the LEOs were not harmed after all the threats

no sympathy whatsoever for these extortionist scumbags who hid hundreds of thousands to evade taxes and who made terroristic threats to gain an extra several months of freedom they didn't deserve

i have to pay my taxes and i earn far less

and i'd be in prison in days, not months, if i made a terror threat on law enforcement officers in line of duty

i hope when the trial comes, it also comes out who in power was protecting these scumbags for so long

10. Booby-traps were apparently found; I'm glad no one, on either side, was injured. (NT)

6. If you live in a society, you agree to abide by the laws of that society. All of the laws.
The assholes enjoyed our roads, bridge, police and fire protection, food and drug safety, hospitals, probably schools, water and sewer facilities, military protection, and a thousand other things our society provides for them, but they chose to defy our society and freeload instead. They might not have helped to pay for the jail they are headed to, but I hope they enjoy their stay there. Freeloading, selfish, cheapskates and lawbreakers.

7. And they don't even support the troops!
The wackos got what they deserved - now off to jail (where you both will probably die)!

They don't even have an argument for 'standing up against the tyranny of the government.' They were criminals, scammers and con artists - tried and convicted.

Ed and Elaine... time to pay the piper.

8. It's only terrorism when non-white, non-christians do it in America.
Bush will give them The Medal of Freedom.

9. Here's the AP's story. Subterfuge by the Marshalls peaceably carried the day. (NT)
