Client of the day: Blackwater
Edited on Fri Oct-05-07 11:42 AM by geek tragedy
Source: The Politico.

The firm of which Mark Penn remains president, Burson Marsteller, has raised eyebrows for straying a bit from core Democratic Party issues, with its involvement in an anti-union campaign and for representing a leading, troubled subprime lender.

But...Blackwater!?

Mark Penn is Hillary Clinton's chief strategist and pollster.

I wonder if she hired Michael "The Surge is Working" O'Hanlon at Penn's advice.

1. More from the AP:
http://www.baynews9.com/content/9/2007/10/5/292851.html?title=Blackwater%20Aided%20by%20PR%20Giant

"Public relations giant Burson-Marsteller has vast experience steering companies through tough times. But there's a limit to how much it can help Blackwater USA, a new client that's been battered by negative publicity.

The State Department, which pays Blackwater hundreds of millions of dollars to protect U.S. diplomats in Iraq, has stringent rules barring the private security contractor from discussing with the media the details of its work, according to those familiar with the arrangement."

4. Blackwater/Whitewater. Kind of ironic.
One was an alleged scheme which cost Hillary $100,000. The other is a multibillion dollar government money-sucking black hole run by a Republican connected family.

I wonder if Blackwater was named to be the antithesis of Whitewater?

"They need to help people understand that as you attack Blackwater, you're really attacking soldiers in a sense," Phillips said. "I think that's a message that would be helpful."

Not a mercinary, but a soldier? Uh huh... you can't really have it both ways!
