Craig Faces U.S. Senate Censure, Not Expulsion, Brownback Says
Source: Bloomberg

Oct. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Republican Senator Larry Craig, who pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a sex sting in a men's bathroom, will likely be censured, not expelled by his fellow lawmakers, said Sam Brownback, a Kansas Republican.

~snip~

``I think there's a good chance'' Craig will be censured, ``but expulsion seems to me probably unlikely,'' said Brownback, 51, a social conservative who opposes abortion and gay marriage. ``It's a misdemeanor crime. If you look at that in the history of things, it's unlikely that would lead to'' expulsion.

Craig, 62, said yesterday that he would serve out his term and try to clear his name after a judge rejected his bid to withdraw his guilty plea in the June incident.

Brownback said the Senate should similarly condemn Republican Senator David Vitter, who publicly apologized in July after his phone number was linked to a Washington escort service.

``I think you could see something like that taking place,'' he said. ``If you look at the actual crime itself and the discussion across the country -- and as a Republican -- this is bad.''

4. There's no way they could expel him. Wasn't accused of gross misconduct or convicted of a felony.
They need 67 votes. They won't get it.

6. So Craig was arrested and plead guilty.
And he isn't even being kicked out of the senate. But they impeached a president for a consenual sex act with the opposite sex. Damn if he had know he would have had sex with a member of the same sex. Republicans think that's OK.

You can't get serious about this stuff unless there's a blue dress with semen stains.

(There's a chart beneath the one posted which gives a look at the states and level of support for their incumbent 2008 election candidates.)

Isn't the magic number "67" for a veto-proof majority?

Alleged Haggard Escort: 'Sen. Craig Visited Me'
By Nathan Baca
NewsChannel 3

The male escort responsible for the downfall of Christian evangelist leader Ted Haggard is now alleging that embattled Senator Larry Craig also came to see him.

While promoting his new book during a radio interview with KNWQ-AM in Palm Springs Wednesday night, Mike Jones hesitated from making the allegation on the air.

Management for the radio station says Jones told them he would reveal something about Idaho Senator Larry Craig on the "Bulldog Bill Feingold Show."

While he hesitated doing so on the air, a NewsChannel 3 camera was rolling when he made the accusation during a commercial break.

Feingold asked whether the Senator had seen Jones in a hotel room.

Jones responded, "No, he came to see me."

Jones then added, "His travel records to Denver have been documented. That's what I wanted to say."
