Documents Show Extensive Flaws in Iraq Embassy Construction

Documents obtained by the Oversight Committee depict widespread defects in fire detection systems, fire service mains, fire sprinklers, fire-proof construction materials, and electrical wiring throughout the Embassy complex. Other documents implicate the Managing Partner of First Kuwaiti, the prime contractor, in an illegal kickback scheme to obtain subcontracts under the Army’s multi-billion logistical support contract.

1. Well, I'd sure feel all safe and cozy there.
I'm very wrong to hope the damn thing burns. Preferably before occupancy.

2. Maybe there's a silver lining here: I guess Bushco wouldn't bother protecting and
occupying such a POS, so it was just a big crony deal. May mean they're NOT planning on staying forever.

6. Why wouldn't they use it?
It's not as if Darth or Chim-Chim have any plans of staying there, so they've got everything important covered.
:sarcasm:

9. Oh, I see - you want the terrorists to win... How much oversight will the Taliban give you...
Only a useful idiot would want our tax dollars to be spent wisely.

3. No surprise here ...
First Kuwaiti offered jobs to people, telling them they would not be in Iraq. They get them here, confiscate their passports and forced them to work. If that happened to me, I wouldn't a rats ass about how it came out - just to get out.

Here's a link: http://www.antiwar.com/ips/phinney.php?articleid=9919 . You can find a lot more if you google "First Kuwaiti slave labor" (without the quotes, of course).

4. You've got a good point there.
Sadly, since kickbacks aren't exactly refundable, I doubt the managing partner cared any more either.

Bribery can't even get you a decently built building these days...

5. I say it was deliberate!
There'll be no "helicopters on the embassy roof" images from Bushco!

First chopper that tries to land...FWOOOSH! the whole thing goes up in flames!

It's a testament to the Bush Administration that I honestly can't say whether I'm kidding or not.

7. Should have brought a bunch of unemployed, highly skilled
union folks over there to build the thing.

And paid them scale plus combat rate and huge life, disability and health insurance.

Sometimes, you get what you pay for.

8. Shoddy workmanship, way over budget and way past its deadlines
Kind of sums up the entire Bush administration to me...

12. See... everyone's complaining about how this $$ could be used
to rebuild NOLA, for example. They are building death traps over there so they don't have to build them over here.

Any bets on how long until the bin Laden construction company gets brought it to build this stuff?
