Associated PressHouse May Vote Soon on Reporters' Shield
By LAURIE KELLMAN
WASHINGTON (AP) — The House could vote as soon as next week on a bill to shield reporters from having to reveal their sources in some federal court cases, a senior Democratic official in the House said Wednesday.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to set the process in motion to bring the bill before the full House, according to this official, who demanded anonymity because the vote, perhaps as early as Tuesday, had not been formally scheduled.
Pelosi, D-Calif., told The Associated Press Managing Editors last week that she would bring up the measure by years' end because "this is fundamental to our democracy and fundamental to the security of our country."
More than 50 news outlets, including the AP, support the bill.
