Gore gives Nobel Prize proceeds to Palo Alto nonprofit
Source: Palo Alto Online

Al Gore, who won the Nobel Peace Prize Tuesday, announced this morning he will donate the proceeds to a Palo Alto-based nonprofit group he founded and chairs, Alliance for Climate Protection.

Gore won the $1.5 million Nobel Prize jointly with the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

He made the announcement at the nonprofit's Hawthorne Ave. office this morning in front of a room packed shoulder-to-shoulder with photographers, videographers and reporters. The donation will not only help the group fight global warming but also to continue to raise the profile of a growing world-wide emergency, Gore said.

Admittedly, Al Gore hardly needs the money - he's already a rich man in his own right - and, it's a small amount compared to the enormity of the task; but, it's still a wonderful gesture. And, for a small non-profit, $1.5 mil is a lot.

Way to go, Al!

4. Yes
But G.W. Bush is better at killing Iraqi women and children, what prize should he get. What he deserves is the old southern 13 wraps of rope around the rope. better known as the noose.

5. Put it to work saving the planet.
I think that it's half of the $1.5 million prize that he gets.

6. Earlier today I heard he was giving HALF away
...Either that was untrue or he has changed his mind in the meantime. Either way it is a wonderful gesture, and no one can criticize him for keeping any for himself!

7. I think I know why you're confused...
I think Al Gore gets half of the Nobel prize money, and he's donating all of that to his non-profit.

8. Ah-ha! Thanks for that.
Not sure if I wasn't paying close enough attention or if they stated it (on TV) in a way that left the impression he was giving half of HIS money... hmm. Thanks for the correction.

12. How sad is it that there have to be groups to "raise the profile" of a world-wide emergency?
Once upon a time when there were catastrophes, you could hear about it on the news, people would get alarmed and try to do something about it. Then along came well-funded right wing organizations whose entire purpose was to obfuscate and confuse issues in the interest of political gain. Because they yelled loudly and mightily about fairness and balance, formerly trustworthy news organizations began including their dissenting opinions in their reports. Now the people who are trying to do something about the catastrophe have to have their own PR machine just to get the truth noticed.

Wouldn't it be great if all of the money, time and effort going into spin and counter-spin could just go straight into solving the problem?

14. He would do more to stop global warming by donating the money to
non-profit groups fighting non-transparent voting machines, run on 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code, owned and controlled by rightwing Bushite corporations, with virtually no audit/recount controls, cuz THAT's why we're slaughtering tens of thousands of Iraqis for their oil instead of saving the planet.

The non-transparent, Bushite-controlled, "trade secret" vote counting system has given the global corporate predators who rule over us four more years of ungodly profits, oil price gouging, war profiteering, global tanker "free trade," huge military gas purchases, hijacking of our military and our national guard for corporate resource wars, development of private mercenary armies for further resource wars, Middle East torture, slaughter, mayhem and theft, parallel looting of the U.S. poor and middle classes (tax breaks for the rich and the corporate, credit card usury, borrowing against Social Security and government pension funds to pay for the resource war, etc.), privatization of our emergency services (only the rich get protected from global warming impacts), further destruction of our election system with money (billions to buy candidates, billions for MORE electronic voting machines) and privatization (court rulings by Bushite judges that we have no right to review the "trade secret" code by which our votes are 'counted'), destruction of our sovereign right as a people to regulate the corporate monsters who operate from our shores, tightening monopoly control over all news and opinion by five rightwing billionaire CEOs, and time to gain global corporate monopoly on all technology, infrastructure and investment on the profit end of global warming, so as to prevent solving the problem with small, creative, "fair trade" businesses, reverence for and strong regulation of the environment, and people power (democracy).

All the things that Al Gore would want, and that are needed to stop global warming, have been weakened or destroyed by the fraudulent electronic vote 'counting' system that was fast-tracked into place between 2002 and 2004, to keep the war and the looting--and the polluting--going. Dan Rather has established that ES&S (e-voting corp, brethren to Diebold) even had a hand in the "hanging chad" business in Florida in 2000, that initially denied us our choice of president. (See "The Trouble with Touchscreens" at www.HD.net.) But this junta and its multinational puppetmasters have gone on to lock us out of our own voting system entirely, with "trade secret" code.

If it were not for the "trade secret" code, we would now have a president and a congress who are beholden to us--as it should be--and not to the war profiteers, oil giants and other fascist powers who are dictating policy. We have a staggering, epochal anti-war majority in this country--70% of the American people opposed to the Iraq War and wanting it ended--and yet Congress does the opposite--re-funds and escalates the war, with $100 billion in BORROWED, SUPPLEMENTAL (non-budget) money! Do we need any more evidence that the extremely insecure and insider riggable voting systems that were rushed into place for the war HAVE BEEN rigged to produce this result? Jeez. Wake up, Al! Wake up, people!

Although the Nobel Peace Prize financial award is a pittance, compared to the money invested in destroying our planet, it could make a huge difference to non-profit election integrity groups, who are the true heroes of our age, in their uphill battle to get rid of these machines, and restore vote counting that everyone can see and understand--the bottom line of democracy. The truth is that there is NO solving global warming until we have restored democracy in the United States, which contributes 25% of the pollutants that are killing the planet. We need to regulate, bust, de-charter, dismantle and seize the assets of the global corporate predators who are destroying our planet. And to do that we need democracy.

Democracy = saving the planet. There is no way around this. There is no U.S. or world emperor who is going to step in and solve it by fiat. Our presidential imperium--whether R or D--and the lapdog congress that goes with it, are now fully at the service of the global corporate predators. The people are the ones who want to solve global warming and save our beautiful, life-giving, garden planet. Empower the PEOPLE!

I have great admiration for Al Gore. He is right on in every way, except this. Like our entire political establishment, he seems blind to the method by which the planet-killers have cemented their power to pollute the earth: the rigged voting machines.

I think I understand Gore and why he will not run for president against the corporate predator machine that has already crowned Hillary as its emperor. He thinks he can solve global warming with moral persuasion, and by staying above the political fray, where--as happened before--his candidacy would be undermined, 'swift-boated,' Love-Storied, internet-ed, 'woodened' and nixed. But moral persuasion ain't gonna do it. As Teddy Roosevelt said--of his own trust-busting: "Speak softly and carry a BIG STICK!" Where's the stick?

The stick is the power of the people, invested in our representatives,--by means of honest, transparent elections--to exercise our rightful power over business entities, monopolies, robber barons, war profiteers, oil profiteers, financial predators, and outright corporate thieves, criminals, traitors and murderers. Moral persuasion doesn't work on criminal enterprises. They might try to "sell" the global warming fight as a product--say, vast biofuel production zones in the Amazon rainforest. Where these multinational CEOs think THEY are going to live, after they've further padded their pockets with "green" bullshit, I don't know. (Mars?) I have some experience of this, and I've never seen a pukier color than corporate "green." We've got to beat them and bust them into submission. And for that, we MUST restore our right to vote.

Throw a half million or so at the voting machine problem, Al, and magic will happen. Power to the people!
