Katherine Harris of Fla. Plans Senate Run
U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris has decided whether she will run for retiring Sen. Bob Graham's seat and plans to reveal her plans next week, associates said Wednesday.

Harris did not return calls for comment, but supporters said she is leaning toward entering the race.

She would become the instant front-runner in a crowded field of Republicans while also stirring up memories of the 2000 presidential election recount. As secretary of state, Harris oversaw the disputed count that gave George W. Bush a crucial 537-vote victory in Florida.

A spokesman for Harris said she was still considering the race and an announcement might come next week. But others close to her said she has already made up her mind.

1. Oh, please let her run!
The republican leadership does not want her to run, because of the recognition factor on the national scene. It would hurt bush. Let's hope she runs, to further alienate the bush junta from middle America!

14. Harris running while Bush is running
would be like having Dukakis announce that Willie Horton was his running mate. I hope that Molly, Al, Mike, and James all bang Harris like a cheap drum.

2. She won in her solidly Republican Congressional District
45-55 as I recall. That seat should have been at least 35-65. It shows that even Republicans are willing to flip if the R on the ballot is offensive enough.

Who knows though, nothing would surprise me anymore.

5. How exactly does this woman become...
... "the instant front-runner?"

Seems the AP thinks name recognition is all.

6. run, Harris, run! we'll talk about election "irregularities" in Florida...
I know, it ought to be a dead horse and we move on, etc. but a state-wide race in Florida would offer a short review of the electoral world as we know it.....

7. Harris --
-- may decide to run just because she has that Cruella Deville thing going. Let Harris and Martinez bludgeon each other to death for the GOP nomination and our Democratic candidate go on to victory in the general election.

10. exactly!
This is good news IMO. There is good reason they don't want her to run. Martinez left the cabinet for that spot. I don't think the BFEE is gonna like KH goin' maverick on 'em.

hahahahaha Should be fun to watch!

8. Good, She won't be able to run for Representative so maybe
she'll be gone from DC. Jeb can keep her; they are soul mates.

Keeps Cruella in the spotlight and emphasizes her link to Jeb. Or maybe Jeb's "link".

Every Democrat in Florida despises her.

Cruella

Iggy

On edit....I am struck by Cruella's resemblance to Iggy Pop.

18. apologies to 'Spy' magazine: Separated at Birth?
Gawdawmighty, that is stunning.
Can she really be that repellent?
I'm not gay, but given the choice between a romp with Harris or Iggy Pop, I think Iggy gets the nod...

15. C-Span witch
I saw the witch addressing the House on C-Span recently (can't remember what it was about). All I remember was being shocked at how stupid she sounded. She had this poodle hair hanging over her eyes, she could barely read off her paper ... and what she was reading made her sound like a moron. My hatred of this woman knows no bounds. It's galling enough that she's in the House ... but the SENATE!? Crikey!

26. She IS stupid, stupid beyond belief
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 03:06 AM by 0rganism
She couldn't even get the laws for elections straight when she filed to run for representative. For Gawd-only-knows how long, she was Jeb's secretary of state, top elections official in Florida. But when she decided to run for the House, not only did she file late, but she remained in her SoS job, totally against the Florida laws.

Jeb had to RETROACTIVELY FIRE HER to keep her from being scrubbed from the ballot.

But she still won her gift district. Barely.

16. I wonder if the GOP will 'Mel Carnahan' her. She knows an awful lot
about the election theft and the inner workings of the Bush Crime Family. Huge liability to them and I bet she would try to rat them out too if she doesn't get her way.

remember Jeb Bush won re-election by 15%.

It'll be a tough race whoever runs.

23. Jeb won reelection in a year when everyone loved his brother -
and Katherine Harris's name can't be a good thing in the headlines at the same time when Bush is campaigning in Florida. She's an incredibly divisive figure.

Bush may have won reelection by 15%, but Katherine Harris won her House seat with 55% in a district that is 68% GOP. No way does she win statewide.

19. I don't know whether to cheer or paint the ground with dinner.
This is great/putrifying news. Her name on the same ballot as the turd she ushered into office is candy compared to revoltingly instant Republican frontrunner status.

22. This could be a very good thing!
If having Cruela #2 on the ballot right below Bush statewide in FL doesn't get the Democratic vote out absolutely nothing will.

25. Prediction: President Katherine Harris
No one can accuse me of being right wing, so I'll make this prediction: if she wins the Senate race, she'll run for President after her term.

And here's another one. Unless the Democratic party has found its way back to principles and passion by that time, she'll win the White House, too.

Do not underestimate this woman or the people behind her. She's being groomed, my friends.

27. Why wait? She could take over in 2004!
"Although not officially on the ballot, former Representative Harris received a shocking 90% write-in vote across several key states, all using the new & improved E-voting apparatus. Said President Harris at her inaugeration, 'I knew all along I was amazingly popular.'"

She's definitely getting groomed to be the Anti-Hillary, but I think Frist or DeLay would be the white male party's candidates of first choice...
