Carnegie group says Bush made wrong claims on WMD
"The Bush administration will today be accused of "systematically misrepresenting" the threat posed by "Iraq's weapons of mass destruction" in a comprehensive report on post-war findings."

<snip>

According to the report, the absence of any imminent threat from Saddam Hussein's chemical or nuclear programmes was "knowable" before the war. There was greater uncertainty over biological weapons but no evidence strong enough to justify war.

The authors say the intelligence reports of Iraq's capabilities grew more shrill in October 2002 with the publication of a National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), which included an unusual number of dissenting views by intelligence officials.

<snip>

The report concludes that "administration officials systematically misrepresented the threat from Iraq's WMD and ballistic missile programmes".

2. Dominoes are Falling
I sense that the veneer has worn thin and the lies are getting exposed. Why did it take some of us so long to see? How did you guys know all along? I wanted to believe so badly because I had hoped they were really out to protect us and as a father I appreciated that.

Now that the truth is coming out there are many questions. Why the lies? What was the real reason to go in? Who all knew the truth? How was it covered up? What else are they not being truthful about? This list goes on and on.. The last question is who will I vote for instead?

6. ...the lies are getting exposed
Why did it take some of us so long to see?

I don't know about you but I would bet many Americans didn't have the time or care enough to really try to understand what was going on... many relied on the TV to tell them what was happening. I can still see Paula Zahn in her cheerleading outfit

How did you guys know all along?

For me, I've paid attention since I was young and am fortunate to have a good memory. What was being said didn't sit well with what I remembered and that raised a red flag so I investigated. The Internet can be a wonderful thing :-)

I grew up during a time when the US government didn't have a good record people could trust, too.

I wanted to believe so badly because I had hoped they were really out to protect us and as a father I appreciated that.

Well, there's a lot of "us" in America and some of "us" tend to get more protection than others. I'm sure in some misguided way many thought they were protecting the US although I can't claim to understand why bush and the gang thought attacking Iraq was wiser than finishing bin Laden first.

Now that the truth is coming out there are many questions. Why the lies? What was the real reason to go in? Who all knew the truth?

There's a lot of theories on those. I think oil has a lot to do with it... not because we necessarily want to steal Iraq's but because we can dominate Iraq's and throw a nice military shadow in the region. Having our own country to station our troops will be very handy.

Who knew, that's a tough one. Lots of opinions there, too. For me it is also who should've known?

How was it covered up? What else are they not being truthful about?

The attacks in New York killed a lot of people and with a lot of the nation's media being nased there, I'm sure there was a lot of "what if had been me" or "that could've easily been me". Lots of financial people killed too. Can't help but think some of these media higher ups lost someone they knew. It could certainly explain why some so easily jumped on the "lets kill the bad Arabs" bandwagon. When the media doesn't tell the whole story, most of the people aren't going to hear it.

Bush has not been truthful about too much as far as I can tell... as a matter of fact I'm not sure I've ever hears him give one completely accurate honest speech about anything.

The last question is who will I vote for instead?

I say anyone but bush.

The question I think you should ask yourself is should I take these politicians for their word, should I only listen to the talking heads on tv?

I say no. I think you should find out about the candidates, what they're saying, go to their site and read what their positions are, find out what their voting records are. You can get some intelligent opinions on tv or here or other places but be a little skeptical of it all because you'll run into a lot of goofy stuff, too. Watch c-span more. They're very good because they don't offer too much in the way of opinion and cover the candidates in more raw settings than any of the netowrks do.

Don't let other people tell you how to vote, go find out the truth for yourself, take the time. Remember, the Internet can be a wonderful tool.

13. yep, PNAC
Knew it all along, all the lies from day one...found it here at Democratic Underground way back when. I was against Bush from the beginning, but had no idea back in 2000 that it would become this bad, this corrupt, this horrible.
Its so frustrating, to see my stepson go off to Iraq knowing full well this war was a scam all along. and still is.
Wish the rest of the pop. would wake up.

9. Maybe this is why
He made the announcement about the amnesty program for undocumented workers. It sure is filling all the talk host lines these days, but some say it will never fly. It will have to pass both houses with clearly 80% of the population against it. Rush Limbaugh is spinning the hell out of it tell his ditto head minions not to worry about it. It will never fly

10. It took them this long to generate this report?
We could see this "systematic misrepresentaion" happening in real time. There wasn't any need for further analysis, pipe smoking or chin stroking.
