White House 'distorted' Iraq threat
By Stephen Fidler in London

Bush administration officials "systematically misrepresented" the threat from Iraq (news - web sites)'s weapons of mass destruction in the run-up to war, according to a new report to be published on Thursday by a respected Washington think-tank.

<snip>

The report says administration officials misrepresented the threat in three ways.

They presented nuclear, biological and chemical weapons as a single WMD threat, lumping together the high likelihood that Iraq had chemical weapons with the possibility that it had nuclear weapons, a claim for which there was no serious evidence. The administration also insisted without evidence that Saddam Hussein (news - web sites), the former Iraqi leader, would give WMD to terrorists.

Finally, officials misused intelligence in many ways. "These include the wholesale dropping of caveats, probabilities and expressions of uncertainty present in intelligence assessments from public statements," it says.

1. So that's what they're calling lying these days.
BushCo cooked the books on Iraq. Deliberately. To force us into war and get Americans killed. Wait. That wasn't the reason. That was the collateral damage.

The reason was blinding ignorant arrogance.

May they never sleep.

3. aw, spit it out already....
....they fucking LIED and Soldiers DIED! :grr:

<The Carnegie assessment concluded: "There is no evidence of any Iraqi nuclear programme", contrary to assertions by Dick Cheney (news - web sites), vice-president, and others in 2002. It notes that since the war the US-led coalition has found no chemical weapons or programmes and no biological weapons or agents.

The report says the White House approach to the war was based on what it called "worse case reasoning", assuming that what intelligence agencies did not know was worse than what they did know. "Worst-case planning is valid . . . acting on worst-case assumptions is an entirely different matter." >

6. This ought to be mainstream knowledge
by now. The fact that so many still do not know they lied or worse yet, don't care says a lot about the power of our corporate propaganda machine. Everything our regime says is an outright lie yet it bothers people very little, lets see how fast that changes if a Democrat ever manages to get into the WH again (diebold willing).

10. Circione on CNN this morning...
He was interviewed by Bill Hemmer this morning giving the results of this study. I was shocked, shocked I tell you, that they actually had him on there by himself. They usually have him paired up with Cliff May every time they have him on, who screams him down with wingnut talking points.

Hemmer did say that this was quite an accusation, but Circione stood his ground and said that ALL evidence pointed to that fact, and, that further investigation by a bipartisan committee was warranted and recommended.

Well, bully of Billy-boy for reporting on this, but we will just see how far this gets. Am I skeptical? You bet!

8. tell me about it...
on other websites out there when the subject of the war comes up...and the lack of WMD is brought up...I get nailed by coservatives that I am a anti-war Bush Hater...so to most of them it seems that it's not even relative anymore...it's like they accept being lied to and have our men in women in uniform die for lies...

go figure...

11. Exactly!
I get the same thing. Funny how they suddenly did an about-face with a humanitariun justification. *rolls eyes* They believe we don't have any brain cells and just fell off the turnip truck...no memory of being ignored for years about atrocities. But that's okay. Bush has made everything all better. Why can't we just all get along and be assimilated er...happy?

9. A huge amount of money needs to be spent RIDICULING Bush for lying.
A majority of Americans apparently are not going to be upset that Bush lied to get his war. For whatever reason, Bush seems to be immune to justifiable outrage over those lies. But Bush lies about everything. Since the public is not outraged over his deadliest lies I think humor needs to be used to create the realization in more peoples' minds that Bush does lie about everything.

It was a Banner Year for Bush Lies.

The Bush administration did not reveal the identity of a CIA operative but the White House is cooperating with the 9/11 commission since democrats are not good Americans just as the Jews were not good Germans and government spending went down if you do not count the increased government spending but the boxes were labeled "Made in USA" even though the decorative turkey was not labeled and Bush's plane was spotted because before Saddam bought the uranium Bush had no plans on his desk to invade Iraq since the aircraft carrier was too far offshore for the Navy to make a large enough banner to describe the WMD we have found in Iraq some of which could hit the US and some of which Saddam was giving to Osama for following Saddam's plans and using Iraqi hijackers on 9/11 but everyone got a tax cut which allowed Iraqi oil revenue to pay for the cost of the reconstruction of Iraq after the invasion by a small number of troops who would be greeted with flowers because Bush misunderstood the intelligence briefing warning of the 9/11 attacks and that is why Laura dropped the dog.

There is no subject so shallow, serious, or somber that Bush will not lie about it. The only other option is not to lie. And that Bush can not do.

Ridiculing Bush over his incessant lying needs to become commonplace.

The repubs were bragging that the grownups were now in charge.
Well this might be news to them but its time to put in a "RHODES SCHOLOR", that can understand what is going on. I am tired of a "SPECIAL ED administration. if you get what I mean?
Just couldn't resist. lol
