Drudge Madonna Urges Others to Support Clark; 'Future is At Risk'...
I've never done this before. But life is about taking risks is it not?

I know that people seem to pay attention to everything I do. Big or Small. Ridiculous or Sublime. So I am hoping they pay attention to this:

I am supporting General Wesley Clark for President.

Not only as a "celebrity" but as an American citizen and as a mother. I want my children to grow up with the same opportunities that I had Ð to know and understand what's going on in the world and to travel that world safely and with pride.

Now I'm asking you to join me.

1. Cher too
I know - as a big fan of Cher - that she is supporting General Clark as well. I am leaning towards Edwards, but if Clark is viable in my precinct, I may caucus for him.

2. You can always tell who the GOP is afraid of reading Drudge..
Now its Clark who is getting the attention of one of Bushs best press lapdogs..They SHOULD be scared..I just saw Clark's ad here in right wing Va Beach and it looks good....real good.
I think Clark would be a great pres..But thats just me..I like Dean too.

3. Clark can defeat Bush, Dean can't. It's that simple.
I really feel this way. I am in conservative-to-the-point-of-insane Charleston SC, and Clark is the only Democratic candidate my right wing friends will defer to at all...some have even said they would vote for him. Dean will polarize the factions, I'm afraid, and Clark will seduce of a lot of fence sitters. IMHO. The evidence is in the fact that the BushCo. has not even uttered Clark's name aloud, because they know how stupid FlightSuitChimpy will look next to countless pictures of a genuine soldier in action.

4. I like Clark but she's not helping him

They pay attention to whatever Madonna has done in the past because she typically did it barely clothed or nude, right?

Her star is fading. Nobody cares anymore.

>I am supporting General Wesley Clark for President.

I'm happy for Madonna, but she doesn't even live in the United States anymore, so frankly, why should I be concerned at all with what she thinks?

If she wants to support Clark, maybe the best thing for her to do is to move herself and her family back to the US, and the next best thing would be to write a sizable check to Clark's campaign.

Of course, this is IMHO.

I know that you care, but I'm not so convinced about Madonna.

This is IMHO and maybe the Clark people don't agree, but I believe that her endorsement is less than positive.

and that certainly could be helpful. Unfortunately, some people are influenced by what celebrities say. Maybe not folks like us here at DU, but then we're not exactly typical mainstream America, are we? :-)

9. Madona is a member of Mensa
So, I guess she'll get for us eggheads and fans.
And didn't make any insulting, overbearing statement telling people to shut up. Just stated her support and why. You agree woth it or not. berrating her is using the wingnut argument: "Celebrities should shut up. Unless they grope."

11. What's with her "British accent?"
Has anyone else noticed her "accent?" I can't imagine where it came from--being out of the country for a few years doesn't usually create a very noticeable accent.

12. Here's the text from an email Madonna sent me today.

Dear Mark,

I've never done this before. But life is about taking risks is it not?

I know that people seem to pay attention to everything I do. Big or Small. Ridiculous or Sublime. So I am hoping they pay attention to this:

I am supporting General Wesley Clark for President.

Not only as a "celebrity," but as an American citizen and as a mother. I want my children to grow up with the same opportunities that I had -- to know and understand what's going on in the world and to travel that world safely and with pride.

I fear the future I wish for my children is at risk, so I'm taking action. Please join me.

Our greatest risk is not terrorism, and it's not Iraq or the “Axis of Evil.” Our greatest risk is a lack of leadership, a lack of honesty and a complete lack of consciousness. Unfortunately our current government cannot see the big picture. They think too small. They suffer from the “what's in it for me?” syndrome. The simple truth is that the current administration has squandered incredible opportunities to bring the world together, to promote peace in regions that have only known war, to encourage health in places that are ravaged with disease, to make us more secure by living up to our principles at home and abroad. The simple truth is that the policies of our current administration do not reflect what is great about America.

Thankfully, we have a candidate running for President who is committed to ensuring that our country lives up to its promise and its people. Wes Clark is a decorated soldier and a respected diplomatic leader who has already given 34 years to his country. He is smart and he is good. He has worked hard to get where he is and he is a national hero.

A perfect example of the American Dream.

I've never aligned myself with a presidential candidate during the primary season. But this time, the stakes are just too high, we have too much to lose and there is so much work to be done.

I'm joining you in supporting General Wesley Clark in 2004. I have committed to do all that I can to help his campaign in the coming months, and I'm asking you to do the same. He needs all of us to reaffirm our support today, at the start of the New Year.

I've looked at all the Democratic candidates. I respect them all for their dedication and patriotism. But I'm supporting Wes Clark because in him I see the qualifications, character and vision that we so desperately need.

We are a country with incredible promise. As Americans, we enjoy opportunities like no other. Unfortunately we too often take these opportunities for granted. You may not agree with everything I say or do, but whether you're rich or poor, young or old, black or white, gay or straight, I know you share my concern and recognize the need for change.

If you can give, give generously. If you can volunteer time, get involved now. And don't be shy…share your support with everyone you meet.

If it helps, spread this message on to everyone you know. My opinions have made news before. Let's make some news in 2004.

Madonna

14. wow, that's so specific!
That was such a convincing appeal - it used logic and facts instead of alarmism and emotional appeals to our 'patriotism'.

....NOT!

If you want to persuade people, you should make a persuasive argument. This is little more than emotional rhetoric stamped with Madonna's imprimatur. As such, the real message is : 'you should listen to me, because I'm Madonna, that's why.'

I got a kick out of that. See celebrity endorsements do make an impact. It almost feels as if she personally typed your email addy in and hit that send buttom. Very sweet.

13. Well That Does it For Me!
If Cher and Madonna are supporting Clark, then I am in.

NOT! Much Sarcasm here. For Heaven's Sake, help us all.

Dedicated to Kucinich and Edwards, period.

And if we don't get the Electronic Machines fixed it's over, IMHO.

We will get Bush, Inc. in 2004 or we won't get to vote at all, National Emergency, you know, martial law, suspend elections due to being at war.
