Rice looks to history for peace effort

By MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 46 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is looking to the past for lessons on how to make next month's Mideast peace conference a success.

As she prepares to host the international meeting in Annapolis, Md., Rice has delved into the history of U.S. attempts to mediate peace in the region, plunging into the diplomatic annals and seeking out the major players responsible for both successes and failures.

"She's trying to draw on the historical record and the experiences of others to see what she can glean and how that may be applicable to the current day," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Friday, ahead of Rice's Nov. 4-6 trip to Israel and the Palestinian Authority, her second in three weeks to organize the Annapolis gathering.

.........

Carter has been a vocal critic of the Bush administration's Middle East polices and wrote a recent book, "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid," that some believe is anti-Israeli. McCormack said the differences in approach were not a subject of her conversation.

1. "that some believe"... great attribution, that...
:eyes:

some = a group of extremists who believe that saying anything bad about Israel (whether true or not) is anti-semitic.

2. Condi spoke to Clinton and Carter? That must have been a bitter pill for her to swallow.
And now even the freepers are calling her incompetent. Ouch.

4. A Proper Reading of History Will Show The Futility and Folly of Rice's Plans
When we can neutralize the religious fanatics, redistribute the local resources and bring in enough water for life, reduce population levels to sustainable numbers, bring in public health infrastructure and public schools that teach factual, scientific knowledge, and employ the able population in nation-building work, then we will bring peace in the Middle East.

Anything else is just oppression.

5. Recent history
tells us that it defies logic to use the words Rice and peace in the same sentence.

7. Madeline Albright she ain't.
You gotta talk to people and show them a little respect or at least some public recognition that you consider them fellow human beings. I haven't seen anyone in the Bush administration do anything remotely like that.

8. The neocons sneer at history. She's a joke.
Rice is a war criminal, and the worst kind of enabler of this mad administration. If she really cared about history, she would do whatever it takes to stop the madmen from the coming attack on Iran. But she won't.
