Missile may have hit US jet over Baghdad-official
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N08453976.htm

WASHINGTON, Jan 8 (Reuters) - A big U.S. military cargo jet may have been hit by a missile before it made an emergency safe return to Baghdad airport with 63 passengers and crew on Thursday, a U.S. military official said.

"We have reason to believe that it may have been hit by a missile. But the investigation is continuing," the official, who asked not to be identified, told Reuters hours after the four-engine Air Force C-5 jet landed at Baghdad International Airport.

The U.S. Air Mobility command said earlier that the crew of the jet landed the plane safely after declaring an emergency because of excessive vibrations in one of its engines.

There were 63 passengers and crew members on board the aircraft. No injuries were reported.

2. C5-A Galaxy
could hit a missile and not notice it. Galaxy could hit a mountain and not notice it.

8. While flying in a C5A from California to Hawaii in Jan 1972
The plane lost an engine due to bearing failures. As passengers we noticed nothing until our arrival in Hawii when we noted with some disappointment the 24 hour delay (most of us heading on to Vietnam or Thailand had less than $20 in our pockets :() as they flew in a new engine and made the repair.

5. Thankfully they landed safely
My big fear is that a large plane will get shot down. We need to get the %v¢# out of there.

10. Yet a report on local radio said
3 local soldiers were injured when their convoy ran over an improvised blah blah blah the other day. However, they were not coming home. One soldier supposedly told his mother that no one was severely wounded or killed because the device was buried so deep in the road.

Now haven't they been burying those devices for months? Why would they suddenly bury one too deeply? Something stinks about the story.

11. If they buried it too deep
...it may have taken awhile for compacted earth to reach to that depth. Later on they discovered by trial (and presumably this error) the correct depth.

12. The C5-A Galaxy used to be a common site over San Antonio
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 08:57 PM by Gman
as Kelly AFB performed the maintenance on them. Then Kelly closed and is now known by its reuse name KellyUSA.

Then after Kelly had been closed for a few years, in July of 2002, we started seeing C5's flying into Kelly again and leaving headed east. That's when we figured something was up and that Bush was likely going to start a war in the Middle East. We knew the buildup was beginning.

The "new product" was rolled out in September 2002. This was another really big reason I never believed a word out of Bush during the run up to the Iraq war that war could be avoided. That was bullshit because they were committed from at least July 2002.
