Pump price to jump 20 cents next 2-3 weeks: government
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. consumers could pay record gasoline prices for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday with pump costs expected to climb another 20 cents over the next two to three weeks, the government's top energy forecaster warned on Monday.

Guy Caruso, who heads the U.S. Energy Information Administration, said not all of the recent jump in crude oil prices has been reflected in motor fuel costs which now top $3 a gallon in many parts of the country, about 80 cents more than a year ago.

"We haven't seen the full pass-through (of high oil prices) yet," Caruso told reporters at a briefing on oil market conditions held at Energy Department headquarters. "I would say what's in the pipe right now (for gasoline) is about another 20 cents."

If the projected gasoline price materializes it would be the most consumers have ever paid to fill up at Thanksgiving and could break the all-time high of $3.22 a gallon set last May.

1. It just hit $3.00+ in Denver..
Up about 40 cents in a few weeks.

So, 20 cents in 2-3 is nothing to worry about citizens! :sarcasm:

We're all getting screwed! Republicans too.

2. Hmmm
All I wanted was a sweet distraction for an hour or two.
Had no intention to do the things we've done.
Funny how it always goes with love, when you don't look, you find.
But then we're two of a kind, we move as one.

We're an all time high,
We'll change all that's gone before.
Doing so much more than falling in love.
On an all time high,
We'll take on the world and wait.
So hold on tight, let the flight begin.

I don't want to waste a waking moment; I don't want to sleep.
I'm in so strong and so deep, and so are you.
In my time I've said these words before, but now I realize
My heart was telling me lies, for you they're true.

We're an all time high,
We'll change all that's gone before.
Doing so much more than falling in love.
On an all time high,
We'll take on the world and wait.
So hold on tight, let the flight begin.

So hold on tight, let the flight begin.
We're an all time high.

Ain't gas grand?

20. WHere are you?
Here in Maine, I am paying $3.49, and that's 15 miles away. Closer (only 6 Miles away is $3.58) The intown Gulf station stopped carrying diesel altogether. They were charging 3.00 last spring, so I guess now they can't make a satisfactory profit.
Worse..I am putting that into my heater, because I don't have $1.57 for the minimum delivery of 50 gallons!
By the time the government gets around to doling out LIheap funds.........,my allotment will only go 1/2 as far! SO far.......LIHEAP has been enough to get me through the winter. Now the SS income is not being raissed enough & there will be less heating oil.
It sucks, In another time and country, (Philadelphia 1977) my cleaning lady retired when she turned 65, I'm now 68, guess I;ll have to look for a cleaning job! Problem is none of my neighbors can afford a cleaning woman!

35. $3.30 here in NC for dino-diesel
Local biodiesel is still at $3.50, as it has been for some time, but now that they've gone to B50 for the winter, higher petrodiesel prices are going to force the co-op's hand.

16. Don't worry
The Republicans will never let the price of gas get out of control in an election year, so don't look for it to spike too high next summer. If the Democrats win, all bets are off for 2009. And in the meantime, if you don't like the price of gas, drive less or get a more fuel efficient car. If everyone did that, I guarantee the price would go down.

33. That is assuming Gasoline prices are under Control
And I do NOT think ANYONE has Control over the price of oil. Given that no one has CONTROL, the market will set the price. If, as a lot of geologists believe, oil production has peak and is on the decline side of the production Bell Curve, NO ONE CAN CONTROL THE PRICE OF OIL. Price will go up till enough people STOP using oil. On a short-term basis that is hard. How many people can trade in their SUV on a Toyota Prius? Especially if they are still paying on the SUV? Given the Credit Crunch, who can get financed? You can get finance for a new SUV, Ford, GM, Chryslet and even Toyota can NOT sell them, so the car makers will finance SUVs just to minimze they losses, but smaller cars have smaller Profit margins.

As to the other things people can do, how many people can move closer to work? Very Few. How many people can opt for a Bicyle? Very few, given how far work is form home for most Americans. Car pools are even harder for most people to NOT live with people

17. Promise! Oh Goodie! Well lets all try to remember basic economics and fill the tank NOW!
If I learned only one thing in the few economics and fiance courses I took, it was this:

Buy and/or even borrow in times of Inflation NOT when Gasoline prices are falling!

At first, it doesn't sound like it make much sense, but it really does when you stop and think about it.

Edited on Mon Nov-12-07 11:51 PM by antiimperialist
The increase in the price of gas is not set in stone. t's an opinion by an expert, but just an opinion, not a fact. We are led to believe that gas will necessarily go up. This thread should be deleted and the person who started it banned from this and other progressive forums.

29. Wilkes-barre PA Area
ranging from $3.09 - $3.15

won't be that much longer before people won't be able to afford to go to work, because they can't afford the gas to get there.

this will TRICKLE DOWN to higher prices in stores. Keep in mind when the chistmas sales numbers are reported - while the dollar numbers may be higher due to higher prices, the actual number of sales will most likely be lower.

remember to give a send a big thank-you to the bushie-buddies

screw the "price adjusted for inflation" bushit, that's just a fluffy blanket to cushion the pump-shock. The actual money in your pocket or paycheck hasn't been adjusted for inflation.

can't find a chart that covers 1997-2007, but I did find this one

31. Exxon just reported another quarter of NET PROFITS of OVER one hundred million a DAY
Every single day seven days a week fifty two weeks a year, year after year Exxon has been making NET PROFITS of OVER one hundred million dollars a DAT...A Friggin' Day.. Imagine a TV Commercial with a man sitting in a large office and having one hundred million dollar bills flutter into the office and fill it completely and the man taking a shovel and shoveling the money out to make room for more and doing this hour after hour. Then at the end of the Commercial the man says he has to rest up so he can do the same tomorrow and every day after seven days a week. We are talking NET PROFIT here. After ALL expenses are paid. The money that goes into their pocket.......And gas prices still go up and up and the Bush* Administration laughs about his base the "Haves and the Have Mores" Isn't it fun getting screwed by the GOP?
