Cheney Would Support Bush* in Ban on Same-Sex Marriage

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney, who argued during the 2000 presidential campaign that the issue of gay marriage is best left to the states, said today he would support a presidential push to ban same-sex marriage.

Cheney, whose daughter Mary, a lesbian, is a close adviser, said that the recent action by courts in Massachusetts and other states that recognize the rights of gays to the civil benefits of marriage has caused the administration to revisit the need for a constitutional amendment.

"What I said in 2000 was that the question of whether or not some sort of status, legal status or sanction, ought to be granted in the case of a relationship between two individuals of the same sex was historically a matter the states had decided and resolved and that is the way I preferred it," Cheney said in an interview.

But "at this stage, obviously, the president is going to have to make a decision in terms of what administration policy is on this particular provision, and I will support whatever decision he makes," Cheney said.

Cheney declined to say whether he has discussed the issue of same-sex marriage with the president, or has shared his perspective as the parent of a gay child.

I read a thread in 'Editorials' which said that Dick Cheney had given a very high post to his daughter, Mary. She's some kind of an advisor to some foreign post. It was pretty obvious she got the position through nepotism.

So now Daddy Dick is torn: either side with his daughter who is a lesbian, or side with the party in all its homogenized insistence that everybody be the same.

Looks like he chose the party, and so did she.

he is more a robot than Bush. He is a total wooden, unfeeling man. And he is very sick and has been for many years. This is a man who cannot accept that he will die very soon. He has spent the past three years accumulating wealth because that is all that has given him any sense that his life is worthwhile. It is all in the bank account. He is really a clone-like wooden headed, wooden hearted person, if you can give him the compliment of "person" To me, he looks like a figure in Madame Toussad's wax museum.
