Bill Moyers NOW Roasts Clark
Bill Moyers and his guest tonight (Chuck Lewis with Center for Public Integrity)on NOW roasted Clark for being a lobbyist for defense contractors while helping CNN sell the war to the American people.

Moyers said, when General Clark retired he made over $800k a year lobbying Congress and peers for airline and homeland security contracts. "He didn't tell us all that when he appeared as a commentator on the War on Terrorism. Why would a man do that thinking he is going to run for president?" Then Lewis said, "It is the first time I know of a major presidential candidate running while still a lobbyist. When he announced on Sept. 17 he was still registered as a lobbyist."

Lewis called it the New shamelessness. "Used to be when a lobbyist ran people would laugh them out of the room. It was unacceptable. But now . . . we have a presidential candidate who not only was a lobbyist but a commentator "objectively" commentating on the war while he was trying to get homeland security and defense contracts and meeting with the vice president among others. I am not sure CNN knew this by the way ... but everyone should have disclosed that."

This is amazing to me. What are we doing with the guy, Clark?

19. Gee, maybe because your headline is misleading?
"You Clarkies?" Rude.

That program was on the selling of the presidency, and looked at ALL of the candidates. But you'd never know that from your slanted headline, would you? I have no problem with anybody asking hard questions of ANY of the candidates. I just prefer a little intellectual honesty in the way it's presented.

9. How So?
Please explain why posting a news report about Clarks lobbying for defense contracts while running for president is flame bait?

Are you suggesting that the report is innacurate or from a less than reputable source?

3. I have always refrained from getting into negative threads
about our candidates, but I have also almost from the first had a sort of PNAC feeling about Clark. I never trusted him and thought of him as a stealth candidate of the Invisible Powers, but kept hoping I was wrong, that my tinfoil hat was on too tight or something. I really think Clark needs to come up with some credible answers, and fast, if he's going to salvage any credibility at all. If he doesn't get his nuts out of the vise on this one, he's done as a candidate.

4. Damn! Outstanding Program...
The information on Clark was very damaging but Lewis has proof and data. Lewis praised (not wanting to) Dean, and used Dean's line 'take America back.'

Of course, the worse proof and data shows that book is crook and sadistic and the most un-American citizen in our planet.

I'm purchasing this book for my coffee table. My republican hubby and family must confront this book, without me opening my mouth.

7. Lewis was very thoughtful. Moyers was indignant about ...
the lobbyist issue. Seemed to have some real questions about CLark in this regard.

12. Clinton pretty much endorsed Clark.....think about THAT for awhile.
Edited on Sat Jan-10-04 12:31 AM by Dover
It's not pretty.

And isn't it also "interesting" that not ONE Dem candidate (that I know of) has called Clark on the carpet about this stuff.

Very troubling indeed....

13. Clinton was always acceptable to the Silent Powers.
That's how he got the nomination.
He pushed a lot of things, like NAFTA and welfare deform, to keep the big guys happy.

14. Yep...
Clark is such a smooth talker, he always draws me in when I see him...

Then I read stuff like this and I remember why I have doubts about him.

17. Out of all the interesting things that were said on the program
this is all you get out of it? I always have to preface that I don't have a candidate yet. I thought it was more interesting the relationship between "Kenny Boy" and bu$h and the favors that Enron received from the last 3 presidents. I found it interesting that the top 6 contributors for * were wall street financial firms. I thought it was interesting that we have people pointing out that we need to take our country back from corporate america. I thought it was interesting that there are so many ways big money contributions can still go unnoticed and are untraceable. Since I don't have my candidate yet, this is not a post to defend Clark. What amazes me is not what we are doing with Clark but what are these kind of posts doing on DU?
